Meet Chris Martin(Bakir)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Martin(Bakir).

Hi Chris, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started out in the music industry as an artist by the name of Chris Bakir and a sound engineer. I grew to like to tell stories in each song and wanted to create visuals for them so one of my close friend’s grandma bought a camera for me and that was the beginning of my career as a videographer I studied and watched videos and did more studying until I realized that I could learn the stuff I need to know this way, or I could go to school for this so, I did. I attended Full Sail University and attained my Bachelor of Science in Digital Cinematography. I landed in Texas in 2019 and went full force in to this community and what it had to offer. I worked with a few companies here in SA and contracted and then decided to open up my own production company called Bakir Vision Films.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road, I have struggled with figuring out how to manage a 40 person team, budgeting for what was needed for a film, and managing the business aspect of getting clients but with having some dedicated crew it has made it much easier to manage along with family willing to jump in and help the company grow.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in many skills in my profession but I am titled as Director of photography. What sets me apart is that I am a can do type of DP with the low budgets that naturally happen in this type of setting I bring the Big budget Look and style to the small budgets I shots that would normally take thousands in gear I figure out a way to do it on a smaller scale but achieve the same look. I am proud that my company can work with lots of budgets and also offer financing for projects as well.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
You have to have the drive to be in this industry. There are times when it will be hard monetary wise and you have to start planning and budgeting more then the average person and in doing that planning ahead and paying bills ahead of time so you can relax a bit when the slow times come, but the one thing that you should never do is sit and wait always look for new ways to enhance your wingspan and reach more clients the market isn’t dry it’s just you are stuck in your own niche and don’t reach out to more.
