Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Kerford.
Hi Barbara, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to talk about my business. A San Antonio native, I’ve been a Reiki and Integrated Energy Therapy (IET) Practitioner for around 15 years, I started getting interested in energy work, angels, and regression work when I was living in LA and a friend of my mom’s introduced us to Abraham Hicks and Law of Attraction work, from there we went down the metaphysical rabbit hole so to speak. Over those 15 years, I learned a variety of energy work techniques. Flash forward to 3 years ago when one of my friends suggested we start a business doing aura photos, the combination of my years of doing energy work modalities blended perfectly with aura photography since it gave me a background to understanding more about our energetic systems. After leaving LA five years ago, I moved to Albuquerque, NM, but I am so lucky to be able come to San Antonio regularly and work out of A Place to Heal seeing clients for energy work and aura photography.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The pandemic definitely put a hold on the aura photos for a while, considering you have to take a photo and put your hand on a sensor, neither of which were very Covid friendly. Also over the pandemic my friend that I started the business with went into teaching, so I ended up buying the business from her, which was a big change, making all the decisions that need to be made in a business on a day-to-day basis alone, but in the end I believe it was what was best for both of us and our friendship, which remains strong to this day.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am primarily known for aura photography, so many of my clients find me by googling that! I know aura photography may be new to many of your readers, an aura is basically the energy field that surrounds your body, I believe it is what you feel when you instantly have a connection with someone and when you know someone else isn’t a person you want to be around. When you come for an aura photo session with me, I have a state-of-the-art hand sensor that a client places either hand on, then that sensor reads their energy. From there the software interprets that energy into the colors of their aura. The sensor is also able to read the energy levels in each of the seven major energy centers in the body called the chakras. I print the aura photo on the spot. Each aura photo session comes with a pamphlet describing the colors. I go over each of those colors with them taking care to explain what each color means. I also offer two add-ons the printed chakra/full aura photo, in that picture they can see a visual representation of each of the chakras and their full aura and a 14-page report emailed to you. The report goes even deeper into explanations and interpretations, including a body/mind/spirit pie chart to see how your personal energy is balanced.
I take great pride in giving my clients a special experience and ensuring they feel seen during their aura photo session. I’ve taken so much time honing what each of the colors in an aura means and listened to feedback from early clients to really see what they felt to be true and what didn’t seem to be right when going over their colors with them, I believe that gives me a unique ability to provide an aura reading that goes beyond just reviewing colors and color placement. I always love hearing how spot on the readings are!
I mentioned that I also do a variety of energy work modalities, this gives me the opportunity to work with clients on a one-on-one basis to help them to shift areas of their life they’d like to improve. Through angel readings, I am able to pass on messages from the angels that are working with a client and guidence those angels have for them. I offer two types of regressions, past and current life. Both can be useful to overcome obstacles in your life, with past life regressions they can be done with a specific outcome in mind, like seeing where your fear of spiders originated or just out of curiosity. Current life regressions work in this lifetime to help with inner child issues or to help you to release old patterns or blocks. Reiki is a hands-on ancient Japanese healing art use for promoting wellness. IET works with angelic energy to “get the issues out of your tissues” it clears lower emotional block and replaces them with positive emotions.
All of these modalities can be done in person or distance. I love seeing how unique every person that comes through the door for a session with me is. I also come from an acting background and years of analyzing scripts helps me to really see connections in my clients’ lives that they may not have seen for themselves, it also gives me the ability to really empathize with what they are going through. I can’t tell you the number of times a client has told me that I just cut to the heart of what they were trying to figure out (and that they were going back to their therapist with the new perspective they found!). Energy work allows people to release the energetic connections to the experiences in our lives that can hold us back. I believe that makes it a great compliment to traditional therapy.
I also am so proud to be able to teach Reiki, Integrated Energy Therapies, and my own classes. In Reiki and IET classes students learn how to use energy to help themselves and their clients to promote well-being. I encourage my students to trust their instincts, all of us have the ability to work with these energies and through the classes and attunements in the classes they are able to tap into those abilities–an attunement it is aligning the students with the Reiki or IET/angelic energies that allows them to more easily sense the energy. I love teaching and sharing my knowledge with my students. My proudest moments are hearing about the work they’ve gone on to do with their own clients and the successes they have. I am also certified to offer Continuing Education hours for massage therapists in Texas for the Reiki and IET classes.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
There have been so many lessons along the way! I think one of the most important gifts I’ve been given along this journey is knowing that we all have the ability to support and empower each other.
