Hi Tanisha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi, my name is Tanisha and I’ve been a licensed massage therapist for almost 5 years. I started my massage career at Eilan Spa in San Antonio, TX. There I grew a passion for relaxation, pampering people, and providing luxury services. I learned all my tricks of the trade there. Almost two years later, I moved to Dallas and worked for a small massage business. That was going well until my life took an unexpected turn. Unfortunately, a brief domestic violence situation sent me into a depression. And as a result, I lost my massage job. At the time it was the highest I had been paid. ($45 an hour) Most people would be bummed, but I was excited. I was happy to mentally take a break from life and come back stronger. I started my mobile massage job immediately and launched in 2020. One month before the pandemic started. Fast forward 2 years, and I work for myself making $90 an hour and serving so many amazing clients. And the gag is, I’m still undercharging. So it’s only up from here. But I’m loving the journey of stepping out on faith to build a personal brand. You don’t have to know what you’re doing, you just have to believe you can do it and that it will work!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve had many struggles mostly mentally. Entrepreneurship is a thing, but there is no blueprint. There is no one way to success. So when you start a business, you become every department. The operations, the manager, the stock person, the cleaner, the worker, the social media manager, the marketing team, etc. So some areas you’ll feel confident in, and some areas you’ll say “I don’t know how to do this. I don’t know what to do now.” You’ll also question your ideas a lot. “Is this worth even trying or putting out to the world.” So basically, you’ll constantly be in your head about every aspect of the business which can either delay you or stop you because it can lead to being overwhelmed. So you’ll have to literally combat your mind on a daily to make decisions. Especially in the beginning when you’re setting your business up. You’ll be making lots of decisions about products/services, pricing, policies, branding, etc. After 2 years, I’d just say “make the decisions and don’t stop moving. Keep going. God/higher self, whatever you believe in will lead you to your next step. You don’t need to know what you’ll do on step 7 if you’re on step 3. Don’t overthink and don’t think too far in the future. Focus on the now and the tasks at hand.
