Inspiring Conversations with Tanisha Ezcaman of The Experience Hair Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanisha Ezcaman.

Hi Tanisha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My story started in 2008. I started beauty school after my daughter was born and I graduated in 2010.

God is good because right after I graduated I was hired to work in my first salon days after graduation. I worked at the salon for 4years and decided it was time to step out on my own.

I had somewhat of an idea of what it would be like but did I really know, NO. Lol! I prayed a lot through this journey of 12 years on how to move and where to go. I had no one to really teach me about this journey in the hair industry.

With that being said I had to rely on the Lord. I made many mistakes, and I learned a lot of what not to do from place to place, I’ve been hurt but had to learn how to forgive and I mean truly forgive on the way. I met people along the way who would guide me to other people but in that, all those places were learning grounds or uncomfortable places for growth.

Once COVID hit that was a turning point in my career because I had to really step out of my comfort zone in a different way. It pushed me towards my vision of being an owner with a place for me to mentor upcoming stylists, give a home for those who are getting established in the industry, and a home for my clients.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was not a smooth road at all! It seems once a year I was at a different location. With all that moving around my clientele would get hit hard.

Which caused me to not be able to pay my booth rent on time and make up for the weeks that I missed but God gave me grace in those areas when it would happen. Don’t get me wrong I have some faithful clients who have been rocking with me since day one.

Wherever I went they followed, but every time I moved locations I lost quite a bit.

I had to be in uncomfortable places where the vibe was off almost all the time. I’ve been in places where the owners made my clients uncomfortable, but I’ve also been in a place that showed me that having a peaceful salon is such a thing.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business is geared toward my clients and other clients to come to the salon and have an experience from the time they step in the door until the time they leave.

It’s made for them to have a safe place for them to be themselves. I’m not just concerned about their outer appearance but I’m also concerned about what’s going on with the person. For example, if you come in down you will leave uplifted.

I specialize in Natural Hair Care, which includes Locs and SisterLocks. I do provide other services like braids, sew-in, and Relaxed hair care. I work with all hair textures. My motto is “ALL HAIR MATTERS”

I’m set apart from others because I’m not a traditional salon. My clients are a high priority to me. I’m very personable with my clients. It’s not just a transactional situation at hand.

What do you think about happiness?
Seeing my clients leave out different warms my heart. Seeing how they smile and laugh during the visit is an amazing feeling. That means they had an experience while they were inside the salon.
