Today we’d like to introduce you to Shun Williams.
Hi Shun, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I created Shirts X Shun because since a young age, I’ve always been into fashion. I can remember back to my childhood seeing how my mother color coordinated her outfits. To this day, she loves to express herself through her clothing and jewelry. She would take the least present color in a shirt or pair of pants and make it pop by pairing it with her accessories and/or shoes. I’ve tailored, stitched, and sewn my own clothing throughout various points in my life. In high school while living in Naples, Italy, my wardrobe consisted of a wide range of solid-colored button-down shirts that I paired with either jeans or slacks and my favorite pair of cowboy boots. This became my signature look and it was different from everyone else who were wearing a t-shirt and slacks or something more casual. I carried this look with me into college at The University of Mississippi where I really started to gain interest in creating my own clothing. One time during my freshman year of college, I found myself in my dorm room on a Friday night sewing a pair of ripped jeans I created onto my body just hours before going to an event. I also participated in fashion shows, styled my friends and others for galas, and more. After graduating college, I moved to San Diego, California and wasn’t making as many clothes as I was in college and this is when I took interest in photography with my brother. In 2020 I moved to San Antonio, Texas and this is when I decided to pursue my dream of owning my own clothing brand. I dedicated several hours of time researching and planning after obtaining my LLC and realized that if I keep planning instead of launching my brand, it’ll never launch. Shirts X Shun was created in November 2020 and launched with only two designs. Shirts X Shun has flourished into a combination of my passion for photography and fashion.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say that it was a smooth ride, but it wasn’t rough either. Of course, with every new venture there are trials, tribulations, and growing pains. I would say that starting a clothing brand has a major struggle with finding capital to fund the business unless you take out a loan or decide to use the drop shipping route. I had to find my way when I created Shirts X Shun and found that drop shipping was not the route that I wanted to take with my business. For me, drop shipping removed my personality and didn’t allow me to connect as much with my customers. Another struggle was finding my niche. Once people find out that I have a clothing brand, the question is do I make customized shirts. My answer: No. My brand is my brand. It is not only personal to me, but a representation of me. I’ve curated each part of Shirts X Shun from the 100% cotton fabric, to the designs, to the neck tags, to the packaging.

Shirts X Shun, LLC launched NOVEMBER 2020. I present a High Quality | Urban | 100% Premium Airlumed Cotton T-Shirt and Streetwear Brand. I wanted to create something that was comfortable, breathable, sustainable but still stylish and could be paired and worn for a variety of events. If you’re going for a walk in the park and need something that’ll look good over some black or blue jeans, Shirts X Shun can be your go to top. If you’re wanting to wear a pair of khakis or dress pants, tuck the t-shirt in and you have a nice looking casual but dressy fit. My personal favorite is a pair of black slacks with the S.X.S Statement Crewneck and a nice pair of boots. Don’t forget your favorite “go to” shorts or skirt. Shirts X Shun is your answer. The possibilities are only as limited as your imagination goes.
The newly added “V.I.P. Tee” and “With Love Slogan Tee” are a combination of my passion for photography and fashion. Photos that I’ve taken can now take a front seat on the graphic tees for a bold, eye-catching moment.
I am most proud of the versatility of Shirts X Shun.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is that when customers receive their product(s) that they can feel the intention behind the item. From the strict selection of fabric, to the amount of detail and care placed in the creation of their piece, to the hand sewing of the neck tag. When a customer receives a piece from Shirts X Shun, LLC I want them to be first be able to say that the brand is of quality and second to be confident in the piece they chose. One of my favorite things, is to receive photos of customers wearing their products with smiles on their faces because this means that my hard work is paying off. One thing I always say is “When you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you do good.”
