Hidden Gems: Meet Miguel Renteria of 187 Prints

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miguel Renteria.

Hi Miguel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Starting 187, we really wanted to start our own clothing brand.

While helping local bands and artists get their names out. We started with a small $200 screen printing press off amazon, that quickly paid for itself. A heat press to cure the shirts, and a ton of Youtube videos. Since then, we have made some upgrades as well as expanded on services.

To include stickers as well as decals. We are also learning about embroidery and 3D printing. We look forward to growth and adding to San Antonio’s well-known art scene.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Anything but smooth, haha. But that comes with anything new, the first press I used has been replaced because it could not perform at the level we needed.

The flash dryer I bought at the same time broke in the first month of using it while burning all the merch in its process. I learned to not ever cut corners when it comes to the equipment you use. Not to mention my 4 kids that I take care of on a daily basis while putting in the work to expand 187.

I often make orders from 10PM-4AM sometime’s 6AM in order to care for them and sleep 2 hours before my partner has to get to her work. It’s always a challenge and well-earned victories.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Know that I am here because I love what I do. Which is making cool merch for anyone that has the market for it. I can make the best lined-up merch I’ve seen locally.

I am known for working well with others, lol. The artist and bands/professionals I work with know that I am willing to work with anyone. I want to help them reach their fullest potential. I know by making the prices affordable, anyone can make a profit to grow with 187.

That’s what I am most proud of. Seeing how happy they are with the quality of the work 187 gives and the prices. 187 is here for all who need shirts and decals. 187 supports San Antonio, USA artists of all kinds.

So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
Being able to provide for my family and give them the freedom to do anything they dream.
