Hidden Gems: Meet Carlos Jimenez of Temporary Animation Records

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos from Temporary Animation Records.

Hi Carlos, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
“Would you be down with helping me start Temporary Animation Records?” was the Facebook message that got everything started. During the height of a Pandemic changing the world around us: Music seemed one of the last connections to the old world.

We can’t say we had a clear plan of what to do when we started Temp A; how much could you know in a landscape that was changing drastically in real-time? All we knew was that we lived in a city with exceptional music, and we wanted to try and keep our sliver of the music scene alive. Our first release was a compilation album to showcase the music in San Antonio.

Then came the daunting task of finding artists to sign. We were very fortunate for the latter that we had friends that believed in us enough to allow us to work with them.

Those early releases gave us the confidence we needed to keep doing this. From there, as the world reverted to some semblance of normalcy, we expanded our avenues of support to include independent multimedia services and coordinating live events.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Our journey has been smoother than expected but similar to offroading; you know the rough terrain is there, and you just have to navigate it.

At the core, we are working with people; there will be interpersonal dynamics that need to be sorted out. There are also constant changes to social media algorithms, marketing strategies, and things of that nature.

But navigating that terrain will ensure that we’re giving our artists the best possible opportunity to succeed. A lot of trusts is involved when an artist allows you to enter their creative world; we want to respect that trust.

We’ve been impressed with Temporary Animation Records, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Temporary Animation Records is a record label and multimedia group.

As a label, our goals are to help our artists achieve the best possible release for their music by assisting with digital distribution and marketing. As a multimedia group, we offer services that include music/lyric videos, photography, and graphic design, to name a few.

We can’t say what sets us apart from others: what we hope doesn’t is that ultimately we do this because we love our community and want to do what we can to help it succeed.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Community. It may not necessarily be a quality; nevertheless, it’s why we were able to find success.

From the Twenty-four artists that agreed to be a part of our first compilation to the first few acts, we signed trusting us at a time when we had no proven reason to be.

It’s never lost us the fortune that we have to be a part of this music community; Temp A would be a fleeting idea if not for it.
