Exploring Life & Business with Stephanie D. Delgado of Sweet Gardenia Weddings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie D. Delgado.

Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story started in 2015 as I planned my own wedding. I was a paralegal in college and it was a task just to plan it all and go to school. It seemed to be another world and the language was so different. We saved for years and so our money was tight. I didn’t want to be swindled by what I did not know and the contracts that I had to manage was simple for me to do, as that was something I was already working with as a paralegal drafting my own. I researched a lot about weddings and worked with corporate vendors. After meeting with vendors they all thought I was in the industry and it seemed like maybe this was something I was good at as well. In 2017 I started doing business research on wedding planning and Sweet Gardenia Weddings was born in 2018, the year I had my wedding. Here I am today still loving what I do!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My first wedding I drove home in tears. I felt that I needed more hands-on experience, a different team member, better shoes, and a better wedding day kit, but nonetheless, nothing went wrong. I just felt like a fish out of water and worked for pennies. I told myself that I would never work myself to the bone like that again. It takes money to uphold a business and I learned this the hard way.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Sweet Gardenia Weddings will always be the professional, personal, and celebratory wedding planning business for the modern couple. There are ways to plan a wedding that is interactive, fun, insightful, and super helpful. You wouldn’t want to re-invent the wheel, but let’s come together to design a better one for you two. I approach wedding planning with an intentional eye, attention to detail, and a personal touch.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned along this way is that the wedding couple have a love story to tell and however minimal or extravagant, it should reflect them as they are the hero in the story. I am the one orchestrating the vision helping make the story come to life. Each wedding is a production and every cast member has an important role to fulfill. The wedding couple’s job is to have fun, experience joy, and feel the excitement.
