Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. When I first started my business I had to self-fund and thankfully I had the money saved & invested to get started. When you are a trailblazer most times you are doing things for the first time in your family. Once I started making momentum in the business after properly setting it up I was able to source funding.

Thankfully, I had a good business credit score which allowed me to use leverage on my personal and business credit side to get financing. Of course, when you are a new business and startup you sometimes can’t get all the access to the capital you need in the beginning, so I am always looking for grants and funding to grow & scale the business.

For most business owners access to capital can be a challenge, that’s why I used my finance knowledge to properly financially plan for my business, and everything I teach clients I apply and it has worked. I have now partnered with top banks and have a relationship to help other businesses and business owners to get the access to capital that is needed.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Career Mompreneur. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I remember sitting in my full-time graduate MBA school as the only African American woman in the full-time program when one day my finance professor asked to meet for lunch to discuss my journey to grad school. During our lunch talk, he asked, “How did you make it out?” I replied, “out of what?”

He said you are so good at finance and math that it’s rare to see among African Americans. I told him how I had always been good at math and found a love for personal & business finance. I grew that love because I know what it is like to grow and not have wealth. Also, I know what it’s like to watch your parents struggle financially. Therefore I did everything to understand finance, so I could help my parents and siblings.

I am known as a financial coach/financial expert. I believe what sets me apart from others is being a trailblazer and the first among others to deliver financial services to the middle class, and wealthy class in a different & unique way in our MoneyPro System and the Power of Financial Wealth framework. Also, I connect with clients and others by offering to coach and now focusing on building out a business school to teach other women and men things around financial education, and literacy that you won’t learn in school in a fun, engaging, and unique way.

We offer our signature Gold Membership for individuals looking to focus on personal financial planning, along with coaching to educate, elevate, and empower you to financial freedom. We offer a subscription model to access financial planning, financial blogs, newsletters, webinars, and coaching sessions.

Also, we offer our signature Platinum Membership for businesses and business owners that is our business financial planning where we prepare all financial statements, balance sheet, cash flow, and P&L (profit and loss) statement, budget, credit planning, retirement planning and more to help you get access to capital.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next 5-10 years, I see the middle class becoming more financially literate and educated and hopefully closing the wealth gap in America. As we move out of the pandemic financial planning will become even more important for individuals and businesses to manage a financial crisis.

The financial planning and advisory sector will likely increase 3x post-pandemic. As more people become confident in the state of the economy we will see different financial decisions made like investing, budgeting, and planning for retirement to name a few.
