Conversations with Dayse Matta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dayse Matta.

Hi Dayse, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Dayse Matta, born and raised in Brazil. I’m a photographer. I originally moved to the States in 2016.

When I am not shooting or editing, I am probably at my husband’s Brazilian Jiu-Jítsu gym. In addition to being a photographer, I am a Brazilian Jiu-Jítsu coach!

Ever since I was little, I loved cameras and photos. But it was in October 2017 that I bought a camera and decided to learn more about photography. I learned about photography by myself, studied, watched videos, read about and practiced a lot. It wasn’t an easy journey, but my husband always supported me and wouldn’t let me give up.

In 2020 I became a full time photographer. In November 2021 I started a new challenge, newborn photography, I’m studying a lot about newborn photography. I really love what I do and I always like to update and learn new things.

I’m passionate about working with all kinds of people and love learning about different cultures and customs.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
One of the biggest struggles for me was the language. When I came to live here in 2016 I didn’t know a word of English. When I started with photography in 2017 I still didn’t speak English very well. I had to lose my fear of speaking in English with my clients.

My other struggle was learning photography on my own. I didn’t know any photographers or anyone to help me. I studied, watched videos, practiced, made mistakes, practiced again.

I didn’t take any college or courses about photography. I dedicated myself to learning on my own.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a family photographer. I really love photographing families and maternity, and in November 2021 I started with the Newborn photos. I’m in love.

I am very proud to be a full-time photographer now, and to be able to dedicate myself even more to my work.

In every session, I try to do my best. I always try to make my clients comfortable.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Don’t give up and believe in yourself. Always do your work with love. Always do your best.
