Conversations with Amanda Bankston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Bankston.

Amanda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up in a small town “Tylertown, MS”, I’ve always dreamed big, and I wanted to have an impact on the world. Music has always been a part of my life since I was a little girl. When I lived next door to my grandparents, my grandfather would practice for his band. I used to love listening to him playing his guitar. One of my favorite things was how he would create a song out of our names. I thought this was so amazing.

As I think back over my journey to becoming an entrepreneur. My husband, Eddie Bankston has been a guiding light. He’s always inspired me with his entrepreneurial spirit. At a young age, he started his own record label. He later joined the military taking him away from his love of creating music. After serving his time, we talked about starting a business that supported independent artists and poets. He was looking into buying a venue to create live events. After talking about it, I told him that I thought we could reach more artists and connect them through a social media platform. At that time there was no platform that offered a niche community for an independent artist to connect and earn money. We settled on the name “MVP Vibe”. MVP stands for Musicians, Vocalists, and Poets. Vibe is defined as the atmosphere that’s created in a space.

We understood it would be a massive undertaking to create a social media platform, but we knew there was a need. Even with all the platforms in the market, 90.7% of artists are still unknown.

Now we have a social media platform that’s providing indie artists with mainstream tools to succeed. Artists can leverage the community to connect with other artists, fans, producers, podcasters, DJs, etc. and earn money through tips. The platform encourages music discovery amongst fans. We also offer a way for artists to get exposure through our interviews on Vibe Check hosted by Shadia Crespo, and The New Class hosted by Corey Mac. We also offer Vibe Sessions which is a live streamed artist showcase with a full production. The amazing thing is the artist walk away with quality content they can use on any platform to help them grow their brand.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been easy. It has been a roller coaster. Our first big challenge was fundraising. Understanding how to navigate the fundraising process has been difficult. Resources have been very limited, but we’ve learned a lot and hopefully, we’ll be able to help other tech startups through this journey. Other lessons we’ve learned along the way is choosing the right developer. We realized since we’re building this from the ground up, we needed a partner that could handle the fast pace demands of creating and maintaining a social media platform.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a marketing, sales, and business development leader adept at creating new business units and new product offerings. I’ve worked for Fortune 500 companies for over 16 years and managed sales teams for over 8 years. I have a Bachelor of Arts from Mississippi State University and a MBA in marketing from the University of Phoenix. I would like to be known for opening doors for others that look like me. I’m most proud of being a co-founder of a tech startup. I would like to think what sets me apart is my work ethic. I’m a hard worker and completely dedicated to the things I’m committed to.

What’s next?
I’m looking forward to introducing the market to our “Live Lounge” feature, which gives users the ability to live stream inside our platform. We also have plans for a festival spotlighting independent artists and poets on the platform.
