Check Out Gina Jaramillo’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Jaramillo.

Hi Gina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My small business actually began after I made festivite cascarones for a Fiesta themed birthday party. The guests were asking for more cascarones, so I began taking orders. I sold cascarones for Fiesta and Easter for the first 3 years.

A few months later I met a girlfriend who asked me to design a flower crown for a photo shoot that was to be published in a magazine.

I admit, I was nervous about that request, but since I love to be challenged I agreed. My girlfriend liked her flower crown and my designs grew from small single flower accessories into the larger, whimsical pieces that are gaining popularity throughout San Antonio, Texas.

I’ve collaborated with several local designers and styled several fashion shows for Fiesta, Dia De Los Muertos and Frida Fest.

I have modeled several of my designs which have also been published and I’ve had alot of fun styling many our local news anchors.

I’ve recently been a guest on San Antonio Living and SA Live.

It’s so nice to see and meet new people who purchase wear my designs throughout the year.

I’m currently working on a website and have several events planned throughout the year.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely been a struggle lately especially with the covid pandemic but I got through it.

As a new small business, I have learned never to quit even when situations get in the way of growth.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m definitely proud to style all my clients from newborn babies to the age of 100+.

I’m slowly getting more recognition for the colorful flower crowns worn during San Antonio Fiesta Week and Dia De Los Muertos Events.

I think that what sets me apart from others is how much love I add to my designs. I truly believe that there is a headpiece for everyone.

Sometimes I get a client who isn’t sure what she wants to wear, then a certain piece finds her and it’s love at first sight.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I actually work alone and I have attended some networking events but what works best for me is to introduce myself wherever I go with small hair accessories or a pair of earrings on my business card.

People love surprise gifts and that definitely gets their attention and we immediately begin a conversation.
