Today we’d like to introduce you to Daizsa Taylor
Hi Daizsa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Thank you so much for listening and wanting to know my story. This is the thing that changes lives. What a story of how I got here. Well, I decided to become a music artist in 2019 after a narcissistic heartbreak, a relationship like that transforms your life. The way I viewed the world, myself, and others after this was a lot to feel and process. I wasn’t able to truly speak on my situation emotionally, so I closed off the entire world around me including people for, at least, a year. Through freestyling on Youtube beats, I was able to speak from my soul and transmute the pain I was enduring into passion. Within that year of solitude, I was creating music and then Covid hit so it was even easier to be to myself. I wrote some of my best songs in pain and dropped my first single “Far,” and released it in 2021. Far was and is a letter to my present, future, and past self; serving as a reminder to be proud of how far you came no matter what. Growth looks different in every season and we all deserve grace.
How’d I get where I am today? By persevering through trauma while learning to understand the purpose in my path. Everything happens for a reason so there’s no such thing as coincidence and therefore, I learn from my experiences. Being reflective and expressive within my music is healing for me because emotions are fleeting and just need to be felt and heard, As I create, I grow as a person firstly then an artist and it’s a beautiful journey. I’ve gotten to where I am today by overcoming my limited beliefs of being unable to freestyle musically, overcoming stage fright, and overcoming social anxiety and shyness by networking as a music artist. I’ve been performing since March of 2023 consistently throughout the year on the monthly, weekly, and daily basis. I’ve performed in bars, at drag shows, in fashion shows, festivals, mental health clinics, art exhibits, on the Kens5 news “It’s A Great Day SA” and many more places. I’ve built a strong in-person connection with my fanbase and really show up vulnerably and give sonder-ness. I’m, also, known to give 1/1 shows. Every show I aspire to do something different than the last time you saw me so there’s constant growth and versatility within my stage presence and artistry. There are shows where people are in tears and I’m grateful of how powerful music is. S/O to my Dai Makers, I love my supporters!
I utilize music intentionally to spread optimism and help someone process their emotions and feel inspired to keep going! The greatest human act is to inspire so I’m grateful to do so and be featured on Inspiring Stories. I’m living out my life aspiration(s).
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When it comes to artistry, for me personal development can be tricky in terms of how vulnerable you’re willing to be. It’s times where I’m writing a song as an artist that sounds amazing, but to me as introvert it feels like I’m exposing my deepest and rawest feelings and vulnerabilities on the track. Whole time, your audience might not even hear what you felt was so vulnerable. An example being, I speak on **trigger warning** sexual assault on my song “Survivor.” I felt like everybody listening knew exactly what I meant until I met someone that stated they loved the song because of my vocals and it completely missed them what the song was about. That’s when I realized what’s portrayed is subjective and so, understanding that I can have that balance of speaking about my life while still having privacy within transparency definitely was a challenge that blessed me and allows me to grow personally and creatively. Art is amazing in that way! I love that I’m able to be expressive in so many unique ways per the listener.
Also, understanding the show business culture was difficult initially. Noticing that most shows aren’t punctual, having people come to see me on time and having to leave and miss my performance due to this issue. There’s shows where things are miscommunicated, your set time keeps getting pushed back, or now instead of the 3 songs you had lined up it’s only time for one. Being in the industry teaches me business and how to handle it. The do’s and don’ts. What standards to have, who would I like to do business with, and what’s needed for each performance. I’ve learned so much through performing music, about entertainment, the power of networking, how knowledgeable I truly am within this industry and how much more there is to know. I love being in a space of personal development, self expression, learning, and growth! Growth requires practice, patience, and pivoting! 🧘🏽♀️

Most proud of? I’m most proud of showing up every single time that I do. I’m not always in the mood to show up and when I do, I’m making myself proud. Perserverance > When I hit the stage, I’m transmuting my pain to beautiful art to be appreciated. You feel my heart on these tracks and I’m proud I’ve touched so many people by showing up for me, I’m showing up for them too.
Sets me apart from others? Not conforming or trying to be in the norm, simply being who I am is unique and outstanding. I sing-rap so you never know what combination is going to flow through the artistry, I’m an unpredictable, wild card diving into all genres. I am, also, super intentional about my lyrical content and what I choose to release. I aspire to keep it uplifting and not destructive. I have a consciousness of what I’m promoting and choose to promote peace and wellness. Intentionality is really powerful & I see it unfold every time so I know my intentions will guide me exactly where I desire to be.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to maximize any opportunity. No matter the venue, size of the audience, technical difficulties, etc. you want to make the best out of the situation. Sometimes, the audience might be smaller so that’s an opportunity for a more intimate performance and stronger connection to those there. Sometimes, there’s no audience so that day could be focused on the content. Getting the right angles to use later and make people want to see the next performance. You can’t control the uncontrollable, but you can control what you do in that situation.
