We are a husband-and-wife team from Nigeria who, like many immigrants, came to the United States with the dream of achieving our American aspirations. As Nigerians living in San Antonio, we quickly noticed something missing—a relaxation spot that played the music we grew up with. This sparked our mission: to create the first Afrobeats lounge in the city.
In 2019, it felt like our dream was within reach when we found the perfect space. We worked tirelessly and planned to open in April 2020. However, the arrival of COVID-19 turned everything upside down. We lost our savings, and with them, our hope.
Fast forward to 2023, we decided to reignite our dream, trusting in God’s timing. This time, we found a space that perfectly captured the vibe we envisioned. In December 2023, Lexa Lounge was born. Nearly a year later, we are proud to have created a place where our community can feel at home, enjoying music that connects them to their roots.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Building Lexa Lounge has been a journey filled with challenges, especially as immigrants navigating a new business landscape.
Starting over in 2023 was no easy feat either—we faced financial constraints, the challenge of finding the right location, and the constant fear of setbacks. On top of that, we didn’t anticipate the high monthly costs required to keep the business running. Staffing has also been a major challenge—it’s been difficult to not only find the right team but to retain them over time.

Lexa Lounge is more than just a business; it’s a cultural haven where we celebrate and share the rich vibrancy of Afrobeats and African culture with the San Antonio community. We specialize in creating a space where people can unwind, connect, and enjoy the sounds and flavors that remind them of home. From our music selection to our food and overall vibe, we strive to offer an experience that feels authentic and welcoming.
What sets us apart is our commitment to providing a sense of belonging. As the first Afrobeats spot in San Antonio, we’re proud to be a bridge between cultures, introducing our city to the energy and spirit of Africa. We’re not just a lounge; we’re a gathering place where people can celebrate milestones, enjoy good music, and feel like part of a family.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson we’ve learned along this journey is resilience. Building Lexa Lounge has taught us that setbacks are inevitable, but they don’t define your outcome—it’s how you respond to them that matters. we’ve learned to adapt, persevere, and trust the process.
We’ve also learned the value of community. Our supporters and customers have been a driving force behind our success. They remind us that our mission goes beyond running a business—it’s about creating a space that fosters connection and celebrates culture.
Finally this journey has shown us that dreams don’t come to life overnight but with patience and faith, even the toughest challenges often serve as stepping stones to something greater.
