Today we’d like to introduce you to Rose Desjean
Rose, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The summer of 2018 marked a turning point in my life. After graduating with a bachelor’s in psychology, I was celebrating with a solo trip to the Netherlands—about to turn 40 that fall. One evening, while enjoying the lively scene at a park in Utrecht, watching families and friends bask in each other’s company, I felt a deep sense of joy and fulfillment. It struck me that life held so much more than the corporate cubicle I’d grown accustomed to. This trip sparked what I now call my ‘soul journey.’
I had spent years as a single parent, working full-time in corporate America while studying full-time to finish my degree. After all that, I was ready to explore what the next chapter held for me. I felt a calling to do something different: to help people heal.
For years, I’d focused on improving my physical well-being through regular exercise and nutrition. But I realized true healing encompasses the mind, body, and soul. This understanding led to creating workshops, on mindfulness, tarot cards, working with the moon. In the fall of 2022, Universe guided me opening The Stinking Rose SA as it is today, a safe space where others could find peace, be seen and heard, and experience healing on their spiritual journey. Today, more than ever, I believe in the power of supporting one another on this path.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s definitely not been a smooth road. I signed the lease for my space in February 2020, unaware of the global shutdown that was about to unfold. I was filled with uncertainty and fear, questioning my decision to leave behind the stability of a corporate job to start this new journey as my own boss.
Initially, I planned to use the space for meal prepping—producing about 150 meals per week for clients—while also beginning my work with Transformative Energy Healing. The space has alway been for healing, as time went on, I felt called to pivot and transform the space into a metaphysical shop for the purpose of healing.
This shift meant I had to sell all my kitchen equipment and appliances, which was a major transition in itself. Thankfully, I found a buyer, but just six weeks before my opening, they backed out. I was left with a huge commercial cooler and other equipment to offload in a very short time. The Universe showed me it had me and the cooler sold within a week.
Through it all, I’ve learned the importance of adapting and trusting the process, even when the road feels rocky.

How do you define success?
For me, success is when people walk into The Stinking Rose, take a deep breath, and feel an immediate sense of relief. Watching that sigh transform into a smile is everything. It’s like they’ve stepped into a portal of relaxation and healing, leaving their worries at the door.
Hearing clients—especially women—share that they feel empowered, strong, and truly seen after their experience here is the ultimate affirmation of my work. Whether it’s through a transformative energy session or simply being in this space, seeing people find peace, strength, and connection is what defines success for me.
