Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Mora
Hi Cynthia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My connection with art began since I was a kid, I had a dear neighbor who was also a kindergarten teacher. I would offer to help her with anything she needed, and she always praised my skill, making me feel like I had a special gift. Although life led me in different directions, I never forgot those afternoons of cutting and gluing.
At 22, as a single mother, I studied photography with the support of my Mom. But the economic situation in Mexico was challenging. Hoping to provide a better life for my daughter, I decided to move to San Antonio, where my sister helped by caring for my little one while I worked long hours as a waitress. It was there that I met my partner, and, over time, we opened a restaurant together. We have been working with dedication, this past 13 years in our place.
Even though I dedicate myself to the restaurant, I never abandoned art. In my free time, I immerse myself in macramé, a self-taught art that has become my refuge. With my hands, I weave love, memories, and hopes into every piece, creating a personal space for peace and creativity. I took my creations to various local markets, and I was pleasantly surprised by young people’s interest in macramé, a bohemian style that I thought would be hard to place in the youth market. Seeing how they value and understand the work, dedication, and love in each piece is a deep satisfaction.
I continue on this path of learning, seeking the perfect client for each creation. Every piece is an expression of love and hope, and with each sale, I send a little part of my memories and dreams into a new home.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been an easy road starting with the language. Since I was a child, it has been very difficult for me to master English, so I am constantly taking classes and looking for ways to improve.
Another aspect that has been very challenging for me is having to sacrifice time with my children, but their support motivates me and at the end of the day, I do what I do for them. Having my mother far away has not been easy either.
Giving up is not on my mind, so every day I get up and do my best with a smile to get my business going.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I made macrame with 100% cotton cord.
