Exploring Life & Business with KaTasha Thomas of Archer Agency

Today we’d like to introduce you to KaTasha Thomas.

KaTasha Thomas

Hi KaTasha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been a natural leader, even as a child. Being the oldest sibling, I had this innate sense of responsibility and a “can-do” attitude. It’s funny looking back because I realize now that I was always resilient, always setting goals and finding ways to achieve them. Joining the Army at 17 only amplified those qualities. I thought I’d be a lifer, but life had other plans. Still, the Army shaped my core values, teaching me discipline, leadership, and how to always see the glass as half-full, no matter the circumstances.

When I left the Army, I felt a strong pull toward helping the underserved, which led me into mental health and social services. This was probably one of the toughest stages of my career—working with vulnerable children who had endured unimaginable abuse was heartbreaking. I had to be strong, not just for myself, but for them. That experience taught me that resilience isn’t just about pushing through challenges; it’s about being strong enough to uplift others along the way. And in many ways, I think I was healing parts of myself by giving a voice to those who felt unseen.

I later transitioned to working with adults in underserved areas and moved into leadership roles, where I discovered my true passion: building programs that could touch thousands of lives, not just one at a time. I became really good at business strategy, operations, and leadership development, and that’s when I knew I wanted to break into corporate America. To be taken seriously as a businesswoman, I went back to school for my MBA. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done—working full-time, raising my child as a single mom, and studying. But I persevered because I knew where I wanted to go.

Corporate America was where I truly thrived. I exceeded my own expectations, reaching goals I had set for myself 10 years ahead of schedule. But it came at a cost. I was traveling constantly, working late nights and early mornings. My health started to deteriorate—my Crohn’s disease, which had been manageable, began to flare up regularly. I was exhausted, anxious, and felt like I was carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders. I had Derrick, my husband now, by my side, but I was giving everything to a company that wasn’t giving back to me in the same way. Eventually, I knew it was time to step away for the sake of my health and happiness.

That decision changed everything. I was healthier, happier, and had the space to think about what I wanted. I realized that my true passion was helping others thrive, whether in their careers or businesses. That’s when I launched Archer Agency, combining my expertise in business strategy and professional development with my personal mission of empowering others to obtain a better quality of life. Now, I’m doing work I love, helping businesses and individuals grow and succeed, volunteering on various boards and committees all while staying true to the values that have guided me from the start: resilience, leadership, and empowerment.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—far from it! But I believe the bumps along the way are what shape you. One of my earliest challenges came during my time in the Army. While it taught me so much about leadership and resilience, I also faced some dramatic situations that pushed me to my limits, both physically and mentally. You expect things to go a certain way, especially in such a structured environment, but life doesn’t always follow the plan. Those experiences were tough, but they shaped who I am and taught me the importance of adapting and pushing forward.

In corporate America, I was thriving professionally but struggling personally. I was giving so much to my career, but my body was telling me it couldn’t keep up. I realized that I was carrying too much weight and wasn’t receiving the same level of support I was giving. It was a difficult time, but stepping away helped me refocus on my health and what truly makes me happy.

I reflect on how when I moved into leadership roles and especially as a woman of color, I dealt with my fair share of sexism and being counted out. There were times when I was in rooms where it was clear people didn’t expect me to succeed. I’ve had people underestimate my abilities, and that can mess with your confidence.

Raising my son while juggling a demanding career added another layer of difficulty. There were moments when I questioned if I could manage it all—being a mother, a business leader, and still striving to grow personally and professionally. The weight of expectations, both from myself and from others, was heavy. But I’ve always been goal-oriented and determined, and I refused to let those obstacles hold me back.

All these struggles have given me a deeper appreciation for resilience and self-awareness. I’ve learned that it’s okay to set new expectations, let go of what doesn’t serve you, and prioritize your own well-being. Every bump in the road has taught me something, and those lessons are what allow me to help others thrive today.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The quality that I believe has been most important to my success is resilience. Life and business are full of unexpected challenges, setbacks, and obstacles, and resilience is what has allowed me to push through those tough moments. I’ve learned to adapt, refocus, and keep moving forward.

Resilience isn’t just about bouncing back—it’s about growing through adversity. I’ve always maintained a glass-half-full attitude, and that mindset has been key to how I approach every obstacle. Instead of seeing a challenge as something that stops me, I look at it as an opportunity to learn, improve, and come out stronger on the other side.

This characteristic has also shaped how I work with my clients. I focus on helping them build their own resilience—whether that’s through professional development, business strategy, or personal coaching—so they can navigate their own challenges with confidence and emerge even better. Resilience is what allows you to thrive, not just survive, and that’s at the core of both my personal and professional journey.
