Hidden Gems: Meet Monica Suarez of Monsoon Marketing Agency

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Suarez

Hi Monica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a passion for marketing and psychology, two fields I pursued during my time at Trinity University. The art of connecting with people, understanding their behavior, and finding creative ways to tell stories through marketing has always fascinated me.

My journey truly began in 2017, when I graduated from TMI – Texas Military Institute. It was there that I discovered my love for Psychology and Photography. I started a Photography Club, where I taught fellow students Photoshop and photography skills. I was honored to receive the Photography Award of Excellence, along with the Psychology Award of Excellence for my research on psychological disorders. These experiences fueled my interest in human behavior and creativity.

At Trinity University, I joined Alpha Kappa Psi (a business professional fraternity) and the American Marketing Association (AMA). These organizations introduced me to the business world and helped me realize that marketing was the perfect blend of creativity and strategy, allowing me to apply my skills in photography, digital art, and consumer behavior in meaningful ways.

After graduating, I took a bold step and started my own marketing agency straight out of college. It was a big risk, and like many entrepreneurs, I faced challenges—especially with imposter syndrome, which made me question whether I could truly succeed as a business owner. But I leaned into my passion, honed my skills, and focused on building genuine relationships with clients, which helped my business steadily grow.

In the early days, it was just me, working long hours to build my client base and manage multiple projects. Today, my agency works with a wide variety of clients, providing branding, social media strategies, and comprehensive marketing campaigns. We recently opened a physical office, which has been a huge milestone for my company.

Through hard work, consistency, and a belief in myself, I’ve built a business I’m incredibly proud of.

Currently, I am also pursuing my MBA at Texas A&M’s Mays Business School. I have already begun to implement the skills acquired into my business operations. I look forward to further leveraging this MBA to gain valuable insights and strategies, optimize our operations, enhance client acquisition approaches, and foster a culture of innovation and forward-thinking.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges early on was my hunger to grow and take on every opportunity that came my way. As a new business owner, I wanted to say “yes” to everything, thinking it was the best way to build my reputation and expand quickly. While that mindset helped me grow in the beginning, it also led to burnout.

I found myself working around the clock, trying to manage every aspect of the business on my own, from client projects to the day-to-day operations. Eventually, I realized that doing everything by myself wasn’t sustainable. I was stretched too thin, and it started to affect both my productivity and creativity.

I had to learn how to delegate and trust others with the tasks I couldn’t handle on my own. Building a strong team became essential, and finding people I could count on not only helped lighten the load but also allowed the business to thrive in ways I couldn’t achieve alone. Surrounding myself with talented individuals who shared my passion and vision has been one of the most rewarding aspects of growing the company. It’s something I’m still learning, but the ability to delegate and empower others has been a crucial turning point in my journey.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next 5-10 years, I see the marketing and branding industry continuing to evolve rapidly, driven by technological advancements and changing consumer expectations. One of the biggest shifts will be the increasing importance of data-driven marketing and artificial intelligence (AI). As AI tools become more sophisticated, they’ll help businesses personalize campaigns at a deeper level, predict consumer behavior more accurately, and automate many aspects of marketing. This will allow companies to create more relevant and engaging experiences for their audiences.

Another trend will be the growing emphasis on authenticity and transparency. Consumers, especially younger generations, are becoming more discerning about the brands they support. They want to know the values behind the companies they buy from, and they expect brands to take a stand on social and environmental issues. As a result, I believe we’ll see more purpose-driven marketing, where brands are expected to build trust by aligning their actions with their messaging.

Video content will continue to dominate, but there will be a rise in interactive and immersive experiences using technologies like augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). These tools will allow brands to create more engaging and memorable interactions with their customers, offering a new layer of personalization and connection.

Overall, the marketing industry will become even more dynamic, with a mix of innovation and a stronger focus on meaningful connections between brands and consumers. Brands that can balance data with creativity, and technology with authenticity, will be the ones to thrive in this landscape.
