Today we’d like to introduce you to Rickey Moore, Jr.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Rick Smoove originally hails from Springfield, Massachusetts, but has been residing in San Antonio, Texas since 2015. From an early age, I was infatuated with music and poetry, but at that time it was a secondary passion to my immense athletic gifts.
As a result, I received a D1 football scholarship from Sacred Heart University, which turned out to be a fateful happenstance for more reasons than I could have imagined. It was at college where I fostered a close friendship over a love of music with a teammate; this ultimately reignited my long-lost childhood drive for creating music. Over the next few years, I used my passion for poetry and gift of creative writing to develop a unique style. A high point of my creative evolution came in 2019 when I placed as a finalist in the highly competitive International Songwriting Competition with my single “Bless Up”.
I also have two Master’s degrees in Business Administration and Marketing & Communications. In addition to music I also create sketch comedy and have amassed over 40k+ followers on TikTok.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road although my moniker might be a tad misleading. I lost my father at the age of 9 to an unexpected heart attack, and from a young age I constantly battled the pressures and influences of growing up in a single parent home located in violent and crime ridden city. I credit my athletic journey for shaping and instilling an unmatched level of perseverance and work ethic into my makeup. Although I still feel like I haven’t reached my desired level of success yet, the passion for creating amazing works of art will never leave me.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
For the past 5 years I’ve been in the Tech industry as a sales leader selling innovation software for Startups and large conglomerates.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the weather! coming from the northeast I grew tired of the long cold winters. What I like least about the city is nothing 🙂
