Conversations with Miriam Sanchez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miriam Sanchez

Hi Miriam, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA and I’ve always had a passion for capturing beautiful scenery and all sorts of travel scenes. Though I’m a city girl at heart, I have a deep-felt appreciation for the natural world around me, and have been greatly shaped by the years I spent living in rural Alaska. My motive for starting my travel account was initially two-fold: it was a way to cope with postpartum depression and pandemic anxiety. But it was also a way for me to find a creative outlet again with photography after the birth of my second child. My passion for travel and photography inspired me to express and share my viewpoint on world destinations, local scenes and hidden gems. I continue to seek inspiration in my new surroundings as a new Texas resident after living in Alaska for 10 years. Though my social media growth has been slow, I am excited for the current changes I’ve implemented and feel confident in my ability to promote my UGC and brand collaboration services.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it hasn’t. There are many challenges that come with wanting to balance a career or business venture with the desire to be present in the lives of your children. I admit, at times, it has been a struggle to focus on both. Even though my responsibilities as a mother with two young children will always come first, travel, photography and the arts is where my soul finds its spark which is why I strive to stay as connected as I can to this creative outlet. Another struggle I’ve faced as a content creator is knowing how to remain in a positive state of mind when you don’t see the fruits of your labor right away. Especially when you’ve poured your heart out on a specific reel or post or have taken an extensive amount of time to provide viewers with what you feel is valuable content. When your content doesn’t get the attention you hoped for, that can be discouraging. Also trying to hone in on a principal goal or vision for my account has been a challenge. Since this initially started out as somewhat of a “hobby,” I didn’t have a concrete business plan or strategy to grow my following. However, throughout time and with the help of social media managers and endless research, I’ve been able to improve my approach and methods.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have a background in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship. When I started working in my early 20’s, I was focused on establishing myself as an administrative professional in the corporate world as a way to gain experience and start earning income. That led me to wonderful working opportunities with a large organization where I gained valuable knowledge and experience, primarily in the area of Business and Financial Administration. I worked as a Business Administrator for 7 years before I became a homemaker back in 2012. Since then, I have performed freelance work as a media designer, have been a wedding and event coordinator, and my most recent focus in the last two years has been on travel blogging. However, I always had the goal to start my own photography studio and business. Even though I haven’t reached that dream goal, travel and nature photography has been one of my main hobbies for 20 years. I’ve also been a freelance photographer for special events and family portraits throughout that time. Another creative passion of mine is painting. I primarily enjoy painting abstract pieces and have been doing that on and off for 20 years as well.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I have too many to recount. But I will say that my favorite collective memory was experiencing the world around me through the eyes of my father. I always called him my personal tour guide as he would take me all over Los Angeles and share with me the history behind the neighborhoods, landmarks, buildings, etc. I felt like I truly had an intimate connection to all the corners of LA. The best part was when we would visit the libraries and museums. I think the exposure my parents gave us to travel and destinations outside of LA too really shaped my view of the world, and instilled in me a desire to keep exploring.
