Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodeci Gonzales
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was younger, I always loved being in the kitchen with my grandma and my mom. Learning to cook and bake using recipes passed down throughout generations always excited me. To be able to learn how to cook and bake while learning about the person who wrote the recipe or who used to make their signature dish was so inspiring to listen to. As I got older being able to tap into my creativity by baking became more and more satisfying.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been smooth. I was finally courageous enough to launch my online business via social media in 2021. From the beginning, I knew it would be tough but didn’t imagine how much I would panic when I would hit those “dead ends” when it came to customers, advertising, or even just creating my own connections as a brand. I think one of the major things I underestimated was that when you create a small business you are the sole source of marketing, finances, face of the brand, etc.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a home baker. I specialize in creating sweets such as cakes, cupcakes, and brownies for not only humans but also dogs. I am most proud of how much I have accomplished over the past 3 years. I have competed in competitions for my baking, and even participated in some amazing events to share my passion. I think what sets me apart is that I create an atmosphere of positivity that shines through in my baking. Baking is an escape for me when times get hard, and to be able to share my passion with others is more than I could ever ask for. I am also a proud black latina apart of the LGBTQ community who runs my own business trying to create a safe space using my platform the best way I can to uplift others.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
To just breathe! I often times find myself stressing about everything happening overnight for my business. I have so many goals and dreams to be able to grow Mixed Sweets. I have to learn to trust the process and not force it. My business is still in the early stages and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon.
