Hi Ashlyn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into dog training began out of necessity, as I initially helped family members with their pets. What started as a natural inclination quickly evolved into something more substantial. I began by assisting family and friends, often for little to no fee. As word spread and my client base grew, I juggled dog training with a day job. Eventually, the demand became so overwhelming that I decided to transition to dog training full-time. Looking back, it’s amazing to see how far I’ve come; what once seemed like a busy schedule now appears to be just the beginning of my journey.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting my dog training business came with its fair share of challenges. One of the biggest was being the first person in my immediate family to venture into entrepreneurship. Without a family blueprint to follow, I had to learn everything about running a business from scratch, which was both daunting and empowering.
Marketing myself was another hurdle. It wasn’t easy to figure out how to stand out in a crowded field, especially when you’re just starting out and trying to build a reputation from the ground up.
Additionally, being taken seriously in my field as a woman—and particularly as a young woman—was a constant struggle. The dog training industry, like many others, can sometimes be slow to embrace new voices, and proving my expertise required not just skill but persistence.
Despite these challenges, each struggle taught me invaluable lessons and ultimately shaped me into the trainer and business owner I am today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Ashlyn’s K-9 Training?
I specialize in helping clients with their dogs, focusing on keeping dogs out of shelters by addressing behavioral issues. My work spans everything from puppy training to aggression management, and I take pride in approaching each dog on an individual level. This means I carefully analyze both the owner’s lifestyle and the dog’s personality, ensuring that every session is tailored to their unique needs.
One of the things I’m most proud of is seeing the joy on my clients’ faces when they witness their dogs’ progress. There’s nothing more rewarding than knowing I’ve helped strengthen the bond between a dog and its owner.
In addition to training services—like puppy training, obedience training, reactivity training, board and trains, online training courses on patreon, and aggression management—I also offer dog walking, bike rides with dogs, hiking, boarding, and pet sitting. My goal is to provide comprehensive support for my clients and their dogs, ensuring they can live happily and harmoniously together.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe the most important characteristic behind my success is my unwavering drive and passion for helping both animals and people. From a young age, my passion has always centered around animals, and in this line of work, I’m fortunate to channel that passion into making a real difference in people’s lives.
Whether it’s training a dog so its owner can enjoy peaceful walks or ensuring a pet gets enough exercise and engagement during the day, I love knowing that I’m contributing to the well-being of both the dogs and their owners.
What fuels me every day is the determination to never give up and the constant drive to improve. I’m always pushing myself to be better, to find new ways to support my clients, and to ensure that every dog and owner I work with has the best possible experience.
