Hi Shaily, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Shaily Patel, this is my story.
When I arrived in the United States from India in 1998, I faced the daunting challenge of building a new life in an unfamiliar world. I didn’t speak the language, and the cultural differences were overwhelming. But I was determined to succeed, even if it meant juggling school and four jobs at once. I worked tirelessly, not just to survive but to thrive, driven by the desire to create a better future for myself and those I care about.
My journey as a makeup artist began over a decade ago, rooted in a deep passion for beauty and self-expression. As I honed my skills, I realized that my work could do more than enhance appearances—it could boost confidence and empower individuals. This realization led me to expand my expertise, and today, at Dermalove spa, I offer a range of advanced treatments, including microblading, microchanneling, and HydraFacial.
Balancing my career as an esthetician and an occupational therapist has been challenging, but also incredibly fulfilling. Both paths allow me to connect with people on a personal level, helping them feel their best inside and out. My journey is one of resilience, compassion, and a deep commitment to making a positive impact on others’ lives. Despite the challenges of being an immigrant, I’ve built a life and a business that I’m truly proud of, one that reflects my passion for beauty, wellness, and the power of perseverance.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road. The journey has been filled with its share of struggles, starting from the moment I arrived in the United States. Not knowing the language was one of the biggest challenges. I had to learn English while balancing school and working four jobs, which often left me exhausted but determined to keep going.
Being an immigrant also meant facing cultural differences and sometimes feeling out of place. There were moments of doubt, especially when trying to establish myself in a new country, far from the familiarity of home. Building a career in the beauty industry wasn’t easy either—I had to constantly prove myself, learn new techniques, and stay ahead in a competitive field.
Balancing my career as an esthetician and occupational therapist required significant time management and sacrifice. There were times when the workload felt overwhelming, but my passion for helping others kept me motivated. The road has been anything but smooth, but each struggle has taught me resilience and shaped me into who I am today.

At Dermalove, my work is a blend of passion, expertise, and a genuine love for helping others look and feel their best. As an esthetician and makeup artist with over a decade of experience, I specialize in skincare treatments and beauty services that cater to individual needs. My services range from stunning bridal makeup that makes a bride feel her most beautiful on her special day to runway makeup that brings out the bold, artistic side of beauty. I also treat various skin issues, offering advanced treatments like microblading, microchanneling, and HydraFacial, all designed to enhance natural beauty and boost confidence.
I’m particularly proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients over the years. They trust me with their skin, their beauty, and, in many cases, their self-esteem. Knowing that I can make a positive impact on someone’s day, or even their life, is incredibly rewarding.
What sets me apart is my holistic approach to beauty and wellness. My background as an occupational therapist allows me to see the connection between physical and emotional well-being. I don’t just focus on the external; I aim to help my clients feel good inside and out. This unique perspective, combined with my commitment to ongoing education and staying current with the latest trends and techniques, helps me offer services that are both cutting-edge and deeply personal.
I’m known for my attention to detail and the personalized care I provide to each client. Whether it’s a bride on her wedding day, a model stepping onto the runway, or someone coming in for a regular facial, I strive to create a calming, uplifting experience that leaves them feeling refreshed and confident.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck, much like the wind, has played an unpredictable yet influential role in my life and business. As both a mother and a professional, I’ve experienced moments of good fortune—opportunities that aligned perfectly and clients who appeared just when I needed them. However, I’ve also faced challenges where bad luck tested my resilience, particularly in balancing motherhood with multiple careers.
Through it all, I’ve learned that while luck may set the stage, it’s our response to it, our hard work, and the love we pour into our roles that truly shape our destiny. Whether in my work or as a mother, I strive to remain grounded, letting my choices, rather than luck, write my story.
