Rising Stars: Meet Josh Parnell of Cypress, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Parnell

Hi Josh, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story begins after high school, when my interest in filmmaking (yes, I really thought I was going to be the next Steven Spielberg) took me to the University of North Texas to study Radio, TV, and Film. Within a couple years of arriving in Denton, TX, I realized I wasn’t making school a priority and I had some growing up to do.

This was around the time that 9/11 happened, and that horrific event opened my mind and got me thinking about joining the military. My interest in film waned after joining the United States Air Force to become a Security Forces member. My enlistment in the Air Force was my first exposure to multiple types of leadership. I learned firsthand the difference between servant, situational, and positional leadership, to name a few. The more connections I made, the more I realized how important genuine relationships are, and that influence is the root of leadership.

For the last 20 years, I’ve taken what I’ve learned and what I continue to learn to grow and develop leaders. In the spring of 2023, I founded Limitless Leadership LLC. We help aspiring leaders in the automotive repair industry learn how to lead, coach, train, and manage people better, by sharing our proven leadership techniques and resources, most notably my signature “roots to results” coaching method adopted by many of our clients. In addition, we help influence business analytics by measuring and managing key performance indicators.

Prior to entrepreneurship, I grew and developed my leadership skills as a corporate trainer and coach for Christian Brothers Automotive, where I led a TEAM for nearly a decade that served thousands of employees within the organization.

I’m the host of the Josh Parnell Leadership Podcast (rebranding to the Limitless Leadership Podcast at the end of this month) and I enjoy traveling, reading, cooking, and working out. I’m married to my wife, J’anvieu, and together we’re raising leaders in our four children at home in Houston, Texas.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a roller coaster, but I’ll also say that I’ve probably had it easier than most who have made the difficult decision to step out into this terrifying world of entrepreneurship. I was able to quickly get a handful of clients upon leaving my corporate job, and through the effectiveness of my coaching, word of mouth helped me gain more clients and within 5 months I had a waiting list. Despite the unexpected blessings of early success, the transition from the comfortable corporate career to entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. I used to jokingly say that I left a 9 to 5 to work a 24/7, but the reality is, that statement is true. One challenge was just getting used to the transition from one world that I knew to another that I didn’t.

Thankfully, I absolutely love what I do, so “work” doesn’t feel like work. But I also have a family, and time with them was sacrificed early on in my entrepreneurial journey. It wasn’t until my wife reminded me of the importance of setting and keeping boundaries to protect my work/life rhythm, that I realized I had to make some serious adjustments to become more efficient and not just “busy”. In late summer of this year, I was fortunate enough to bring on a full time performance coach to the TEAM, and we’re already looking for our next coach to join us before the end of the year.

Those are just a couple challenges, but I can definitely share more. I have plenty lol.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

Limitless Leadership LLC brings a unique blend of leadership and performance coaching to the automotive repair industry, which is an industry that already lacks trust. We are on a mission to change the industry’s reputation by helping shop owners go from great to greater.

I’m most proud of the work I’ve put in to become an expert in the field of leadership. I’m known for playing a primary role in hundreds, if not thousands, of people’s professional and personal growth and development. What sets me a part from the rest is my level of intentionality. I remember all of the folks I’ve worked with because I make it a point to get to know them. To learn about who they are, what drives them, and what their goals are.

In addition to the above, I’m also a keynote speaker, published author, and trainer.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Yes. I would love to share the concept of how anyone reading this article is a leader. You have perspective that nobody else has, which makes you 1 of 1. You have your own upbringing and your own life experiences that have shaped you into the person you are today. This makes you influential, which means you’re contagious. You can either infect or effect. And anyone who is a change agent and effects change is a leader. I’m happy to go deeper on this, but that’s the synopsis of a message I’d like to share.
