Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Mendez
Hi Joseph, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been interested in the paranormal for as long as I can remember starting as a young teen. I followed several paranormal teams in San Antonio learning as much as I could about the field, up until my mid adult years. As I got older I wanted to focus on my career in law enforcement and a family. As the years past I decided to leave law enforcement and pursue my dream which was in film and television. I wrote and produced several short films and won one award for best short film. When Covid hit, my family and I started noticing weird occurrences happening in our home, things that I considered to be possible paranormal activity. After a few incidents that occurred which included my kids experiencing things, my wife finally gave in to let me purchase some equipment such as voice recorders, cameras and EMF (electromagnetic field detectors). Our first paranormal experiment resulted in us capturing a woman’s voice in our home after being asked a question. My wife was an instant believer. That along with a few other incidents finally got her convinced to join me in exploring the paranormal. I called up my best friend and a brother to me who had worked on every project before this with me and asked if he wanted to take part in filming paranormal content. I figured if we are going to do this, we might as well document it and share with the world. I mentioned this to my brother Dan from Hasta La Muerte Chronicles and we decided to work together going forward. On my first investigation my other brother Mike joined us filming behind the scenes footage and while doing so became a staple for us being another mind of reason, creativity and skepticism keeping our investigations honest. We release a few episodes a year due to keeping our investigations honest and real. Its been a blast and we love it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part smooth. When we first started during the early start of Covid, most places were closed and gave us a lot of free access. It didn’t mean we necessarily captured anything but at least we were able to go in and investigate without a lot of push back. Now that things are up and running, most places cost an arm and leg to investigate. Most residential locations we investigate have natural and normal explanations that most people want to blame on paranormal occurrence. Im all for creating content and episodes but not for insulting the field and throwing false information out there. The biggest struggle is creating episodes when not having actual unexplainable occurrence’s or easily accessible locations to investigate.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a paranormal investigation team, we try our best to find rational and scientific reasons as to why people are experiencing events in their daily life that they believe may be paranormal. We use devices such as electromagnetic field detectors, devices to distinguish changes in humidity and temperature, motion sensors and thermal cameras. Our job is to find the real reason besides it being paranormal people are experiencing things that may be a bother or a concern them.
We are proud that we are able to do this as a family, have fun with it and not let it be complicated. We are content creators and film episodes for our show but never jeopardize the integrity of our investigations. I don’t know what separates us from others. Truthfully I don’t watch very many paranormal shows, especially the mainstream ones, but if I had to pick something, I would say that we dont feel the need to exaggerate, and what you see is what you get. We try to show the real side of paranormal investigations. Which can be very boring most of the time… if you’re doing it right.
What does success mean to you?
Happiness. I love what we do, and the fact that I get to do something that I love with the people that I love and someone like you or a podcast or anyone feels interested in what we are doing or created. That’s enough for me. I sat and watched 9 people walk into a theater to watch our episode at a film festival, and each of them sat through the entire thing, They didn’t get up and walk out. Whether it be all 9 or just one person I’m grateful and appreciative.
