Hidden Gems: Meet Lika Torline of In The Weeds Premium Botanical Products

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lika Torline

Hi Lika, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey began in 2010 after I graduated from Texas State University with a degree in Interior Design. I was eager to dive into the industry, but the economy had shifted, making jobs scarce. I landed a physically demanding role as an assistant display manager at a furniture store, where I was expected to eventually take over the department. However, just months into the job, I suffered a debilitating back injury while setting up a display. The injury marked the beginning of a challenging period in my life.

I spent months in physical therapy, battling chronic pain and the side effects of heavy medication. The injury not only took a toll on my body but also on my mental health, leaving me feeling lost and unsure of my future. Despite the setbacks, I knew I needed to find a new direction. That’s when I decided to enroll in esthetics school, driven by a lifelong interest in makeup and skincare.

While in school, I was shocked to learn about the harsh chemicals in many skincare products. This knowledge, combined with my desire to avoid anything that might further harm my body, led me to explore natural alternatives. A simple school project to create an exfoliant sparked something within me. I began experimenting with natural ingredients, blending essential oils and other plant-based components to create a gentle, effective product. When my teacher and peers encouraged me to start selling my creations, I knew I was onto something.

In 2013, I officially launched In The Weeds Natural Skin Care, inspired by the phrase “in the weeds,” which in the service industry means being overwhelmed but pushing through. My life had been in the weeds, but this business became my way out. I started small, selling my products at local farmers’ markets and gradually building a loyal customer base. Winning a $5,000 grant from the McAllen Chamber of Commerce that summer gave me the boost I needed to create a website and professional packaging, officially putting me in business.

Today, In The Weeds Premium Botanical Products is a thriving brand, and I’m passionate about helping others with sensitive skin. Every product is a result of careful research and testing, designed to be as natural and effective as possible. Looking back, I realize that my injury, while painful and challenging, was a blessing in disguise. It led me to discover my true passion and purpose.

This journey has taught me resilience and the importance of finding the silver lining in every situation. I’m grateful for the challenges I’ve overcome, and I’m committed to creating products that make life a little easier and more enjoyable for my customers. Thank you for allowing me to share my story. I hope you feel the care and dedication I put into every product.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I always say there’s a little bit of crazy in every entrepreneur and business owner because most would say it’s not for the weary! My business came into existence because of the challenges my customers and I face (no pun intended) when it comes to finding natural and effective products. I was also overcoming a back injury when my first product came to fruition, so challenges have always been in the picture.
Like many business owners, I have had my own set of typical challenges when it comes to growing pains and expanding, but let’s throw in a global pandemic and the economy shifts for funsies, right? As the saying goes, smooth waters don’t make for good sailors and these challenges will only continue to help shape me into a better person and business owner.

As you know, we’re big fans of In The Weeds Premium Botanical Products. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At In The Weeds Premium Botanical Products, we specialize in creating all-natural skincare solutions designed for people with sensitive skin. Our journey started from a personal place—I struggled with chronic pain and skin issues myself, so I understand how important it is to find products that are both effective and gentle. This experience drives everything we do at In The Weeds.

What sets us apart is our commitment to purity and quality. Every product is handcrafted with natural, plant-based ingredients, free from harsh chemicals, synthetic fragrances, and unnecessary fillers. We focus on using essential oils, herbs, and other natural components that nourish and heal the skin, all while maintaining the highest standards of sustainability.

Our best-known product, Dollface, is a perfect example of this commitment. It started as a simple exfoliant made for a school project, but it has evolved into a fan favorite, praised for its ability to rejuvenate and brighten the skin without irritation. Our customers love that they can trust what they’re putting on their bodies—everything we make is created with care, intention, and a deep respect for the natural world.

Brand-wise, I’m incredibly proud of the community we’ve built. It’s not just about selling products; it’s about connecting with people who share our values of natural living and self-care. We’ve grown from a small local business into a brand that resonates with people who are seeking healthier, more mindful choices in their skincare routines. We’ve grown from a small, local brand to one that’s recognized for its authenticity and dedication to quality. Our customers trust us, and that trust is something I value deeply.

I want your readers to know that when they choose In The Weeds, they’re choosing products that are not only good for their skin but also made with a lot of love and thoughtfulness. Whether you’re dealing with sensitive skin, looking for natural alternatives, or just wanting to treat yourself to something special, our products are designed to make you feel good in your own skin.

In The Weeds is more than just a skincare line—it’s a testament to resilience, passion, and the belief that nature provides everything we need to care for ourselves. We’re here to help you embrace your natural beauty with products that are as pure and powerful as the plants they come from.
