Daily Inspiration: Meet Bri Bagwell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bri Bagwell.

Bri Bagwell

Hi Bri, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m from New Mexico originally but – crazy to say – I’ve been in Texas for 15 years. I started singing with my brothers’ band when I was 14-years-old. They’re identical twins, seven years older than me, and we played honkytonks until the wee hours of the morning, then I would drag myself to volleyball practice before high school. I was hooked on live performance since then. I got accepted to The University of Texas McCombs School of Business, and moved to Austin, TX to go to college. I graduated with a marketing degree and a minor in management, but only had a day job for three months before I quit to pursue music full time! Since then, I’ve had a publishing deal with Sony ATV, been on multiple TV singing competitions, released five solo records, and played over a thousand shows. Currently, I am about to record some new music, and I will play over 15 states in 2024!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If you choose to pursue your dreams, it’s never a “smooth” road, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m so thrilled to be able to do what I love, but the ever-changing music landscape always presents a few, um, potholes, if you will! Also, COVID was devastating to the music industry, and years later, I feel like we are finally back to normal-ish. Also, the way we recorded and released music when I started in 2009 is 100% different from the current musical landscape! Spotify has changed the game, and it’s been a path of adjusting, constantly. I’ve always just “figured it out” as an indie artist, and adapting has been the way to navigate a not-so-smooth pathway.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m most known for being one of the few females amongst a mostly male-dominated landscape. I write songs and I record, but I’m on the road all year long, every year. As Texas artists, we don’t really get a “break” from touring, and that’s fine with us. It’s our full-time job, and we are so grateful for it. I think that my perseverance over the last decade has set me apart; a lot of people give up on the music business, because it’s a never-ending rollercoaster. But I’ve been able to stay in the game, and now I get to play my dream festivals such as Mile 0 Fest, Braun Brothers Reunion and Steamboat Musicfest!

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I was the state champion and 5AAAAA Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year in New Mexico! I might run if I see a volleyball coming my way now, though! Ha!
