Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis “FLUX” Stillwell.
Hi Travis, “FLUX,” can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Upon graduating from high school in Northern California, I enlisted in the US Marine Corps as an infantryman. Transitioning from military service, I ventured into entrepreneurship, founding Flux Mechanics and initially focusing on entertainment ventures. This spanned from crafting visuals for LED and projection-mapped surfaces at various venues to producing content for video games, music videos, and nightlife events. Approximately six years ago, the US Air Force took notice of my business and extended an invitation to join their Department of Defense (DoD) team. This team was dedicated to pioneering virtual reality (VR) training, utilizing VR simulation flight simulators and real-life VR/360 video captured from flights. Although hesitant to leave behind my cherished home in Pacific Beach, where I had lived for 13 years by the ocean, the prospect of actively participating in flight operations persuaded me to relocate to Texas for this unique opportunity. Nearly six years have passed since then, and I find immense fulfillment in my work, contributing to the innovative efforts of the US Air Force.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The path to success is anything but smooth, and rightfully so. It demands countless hours of dedication and perseverance to accomplish one’s goals. It entails numerous sleepless nights, plagued by thoughts of setbacks and struggling to maintain productivity amidst adversity. Despite the challenges, success is attainable only with a relentless battle at every step. Nothing is handed to you; you must seize it.
Thanks for sharing that. Can you tell us more about your work next?
I operate as a military defense contractor through my company, Flux Mechanics, while serving as a Department of Defense (DoD) professional. My primary focus in both roles revolves around developing VR/360 training programs, primarily catering to aviation clientele. However, Flux Mechanics possesses the versatility to tailor VR/360 training for various client requirements. Among my notable achievements, I was personally recruited by the US Air Force to spearhead the creation of VR/360 pilot training programs. Additionally, within Flux Mechanics, I collaborated closely with Lockheed Martin Co. to engineer the T-1 Jayhawk flight simulator for Prepar3D, a VR flight simulation platform utilized extensively by the USAF for pilot training. Furthermore, I engaged in strategic partnerships with Martin Baker Co. to devise marketing campaigns, including commercials and other video content initiatives.
We could end by discussing what matters most to you and why.
My company and I consistently prioritize delivering top-tier products that meet our client’s training requirements, ensuring utmost satisfaction.
