Today, we’d like to introduce you to Michal Waechter.
Hi Michal, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in San Marcos and followed my parent’s legacy of attending Southwest Texas State University. After graduating with my Bachelor’s in Health Information Management, the University changed its name to Texas State University before I earned my Master’s of Science in Healthcare Administration. Though SWT is in my blood, I’ve embraced Texas State as the new name. I moved to San Antonio and embarked on a 10-year Hospital Administration and Executive Leadership career.
I started as a Marketing Manager and was promoted through many levels of the organization, ultimately leading the oncology service line as the Regional Director of Oncology Services for the five-hospital Baptist Health System. After leaving Baptist in 2016, I started Waechter Consulting Group, which is dedicated to helping medical practices optimize and grow.
I have diverse experience in strategy, program execution, operational improvement, referral outreach, brand positioning, and consumer engagement, which I utilize to create a comprehensive marketing and business development strategy for providers wishing to grow their patient volume. Business Development is my passion, and facilitating quality medical care, by respected providers that exceeds patient expectations is truly rewarding. Seven years later, my business is thriving, and my clients are like family.
In addition to my client obligations, I am a member of several professional organizations, a Trustee for the Texas State University Development Foundation Board and Chair of the Board Development Subcommittee, Founder of the San Antonio Liaison League, Board Member and Programs Director of the National Association of Women Business Owners – San Antonio Chapter and a long-time Chair of the American Cancer Society’s Ranch Chic Fashion Show fundraiser.
In down time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and three children, traveling, cooking, and connecting with family and friends.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The transition from corporate, for-profit healthcare and 70-hour work weeks to self-employment, unguaranteed income, and entrepreneurship was a difficult but rewarding journey.
When I started Waechter Consulting Group, I decided to create a successful business that would allow for the flexibility and autonomy that my growing family needed. I was blessed with a solid support system and industry relationships that served as building blocks.
Learning how to navigate starting a business, forming an LLC, creating a DBA, developing a business plan, designing collateral, and drafting agreements and proposals was full of trial and error. Gradually, it all came together to form a dynamic and growing entity.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Waechter Consulting Group is committed to providing new and established medical practices with customized business development strategies that grow patient volume and optimize business performance.
We understand that BUILDING a successful medical practice and GROWING that practice are two entirely different things. My team specializes in strategies to achieve both. Our goal is to establish a mutually beneficial relationship that affords you savings of time, money, and resources while optimizing your business model and increasing your patient volume. We become your fractional business development team to execute both referral strategies and marketing strategies on your behalf.
With almost 20 years of healthcare experience in the San Antonio market, I bring a vast network of relationships to any client engagement. Our reward is facilitating quality care for patients and helping physicians reach more patients.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
One of the primary outcome metrics that we use to gauge success for our clients is patient volume.
Our role as Healthcare Consultants is to formulate a business development plan that coordinates marketing, medical quality, strategy, operations and relationships to grow the practice volume and increase overall revenue. By closely tracking patient volume on a monthly basis, we are able to accurately identify where our marketing and outreach efforts have generated the most return.
One of our clients was an established subspecialty group opening a new office in a previously untapped market. By focusing on this location, we were able to triple the number of target accounts, add close to 300 new patient visits in 6 months, and increase the overall volume at that location by more than 40%.
The customized combination of marketing, referral outreach, and community engagement was wildly successful in achieving the practice’s original goal.
