Community Highlights: Meet Alyssa Jenson of Uriah Real Estate Organization

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Jenson.

Hi Alyssa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
When I was just a young girl, I always knew I was meant for something bigger and greater than what the 3-D world around me was presenting. I just wasn’t sure how I was going to get there, but I knew one day I would figure it out. I knew I had a big calling in life to help people in need and a natural desire to do so. I remember as a kid, one day in church, on my birthday, I had a five-dollar bill in my little purse and the church was asking for anyone in the congregation to help donate to a member that was in need of financial assistance.

So after the service, I went to find the lady and gave her my birthday money. I really thought at the time, my five dollars was going to help her a lot. This was me. This is me. To this day, I have helped and continue to help a vast amount of people in many different forms as much as my busy schedule allows. Whether it’s been financially, emotionally, mentally, physically, etc. I love assisting the homeless community as I am a firm believer that you never truly know someone’s story.

It is easy to judge and listen to rumors or make assumptions, but you truly just never know sometimes what someone has been through or why they ended up where they are. I believe I feel this way because of my own life experiences. I have spent a significant amount of time volunteering at the VA Hospital in San Antonio, TX. The sense of joy it brought me to see certain patients light up when I walked into the room to visit them again made it all worth it. Even the non-verbal patients expressed their joy through their faces.

They needed companionship and affection and I am so glad that I was able to impact their lives in a positive way even if it was brief. And oh boy, when I missed a weekend, they let me know real quick that they were not happy about that. Volunteering there gave me the itch to pursue a nursing career. But in my adolescent years, I was very fascinated with Real Estate, and looking at luxury homes in magazines was my favorite. I had dreamed of having a career in Real Estate and used to picture myself in the future doing so. But as time went on and I began to grow up, I was faced with so many challenges that I had to endure alone.

I became a mother at the age of 18 and I was completely lost as I fought through “single mom life”. Dealing with heartache and being a mom at such a young age with deep feelings of loneliness and hopelessness, I knew I had to do something to change life as I knew it. I tried many different things and went on through life mainly focusing on my daughter, Emily. I eventually did try to go to school to become a nurse but that failed quickly due to the large responsibilities I had on my shoulders to provide without much assistance myself.

I wanted to put as much time and attention on Emily as possible so she could have a very different life than I did. I wanted her to have so much better and suffer the least amount possible and I swore to myself I would do everything possible to make that a reality. And now with great honor, I can say that she is almost 12 years old and she has had the complete opposite life so far of what I had. That to me is one of my greatest accomplishments and best feelings as a mother. It makes me the happiest mom in the world. It also shows me how powerful we are as human beings.

If we focus on growing something with such gentleness, intention, and love, eventually it will produce the best fruit. The compliments I have received over the years of how amazing Emily is from teachers, colleagues, family, strangers, etc., show me that all the trials and tribulations have been beyond worth it. I also have the sweetest son, Maximus. He is almost 5 years old and he is very protective of his momma. He adores me.

It’s like he knows I’ve been my own protector most of my life, and he is showing me already at this little age, that he’s got me and he will always take care of me. He holds me and hugs me like a grown man and sometimes I feel he is an adult in a tiny body, like such an old soul. It’s quite hilarious. He is God sent and I didn’t even know I needed him. For several years, I worked in the property management side of Real Estate for in San Antonio, Tx, Hollywood, and Beverly Hills, California. Those jobs were a lot of fun but they just weren’t fully fulfilling me.

I always felt like I stayed stuck with certain jobs because I knew I was good at it, I loved helping people and I got paid for it, so, why not? As I mentioned earlier, I always knew I wanted to be in Real Estate helping people find their homes and investing, etc., but I lacked confidence in the past to make that happen. Then as time went on, I made more excuses and worked jobs that I didn’t really want to do, only to learn the hard way that I just needed to follow my heart

I even opened up a business that ended up failing as well. And if I would’ve just listened to my gut and put the effort into getting my Real Estate license a long time ago, I could’ve sold a ton of Real Estate right at the peak of the Covid pandemic. But of course, stubbornness is a real thing, and a lot of times we hold ourselves back from everything we have ever wanted. So I told myself enough is enough and I buckled down and worked vigorously towards my Real Estate license.

I am now a licensed Real Estate Agent and have been working hard on building my business and an even better life for my little family. I managed to get three listings in my first month of working with my brokerage and I am hopeful for the future. I said all of that to say this- Life throws many curveballs. Fair and unjust. There have been many times I felt like I failed as far as having a set career to provide for my family. But over time, I have learned that I was just wrapped up in what society’s standards had set for that.

I was being too hard on myself for not “making it” yet but what I wasn’t realizing is that I had already “made it” through so many terrible things that I would never wish for other people to go through. I brought myself out of the darkest places and never gave up. I have made a massive impact on my own life, my children’s lives, and others. I have helped others even when I was in the pits. I have done a tremendous job being present with my children and raising them properly which sets the tone for future generations.

That’s a huge job in itself that most people don’t even do and way more valuable than anything else. I have already changed the game in my family and created a Legacy that my children will always remember and continue to implement. I hope this glimpse of my story can ensure this to the reader… Do not ever give up. Sometimes you are standing in your own way, and nobody is going to do it for you. So get out there and do what makes you happy regardless of anything else. Only you know your story and only you can change it.

There is no certain timeline that you must live by but everything is possible if you just believe and take action. Do not let society’s terms determine your version of “success”. People will always talk about you and have their own opinions, let them. Sometimes things happen that we do not have explanations for but it’s a matter of persisting even through the fog. Fear is an illusion and an invisible switch that can easily be turned off. It’s all up to you. But always always always, follow your heart. It’s the best compass there is.

Thank you so much for sharing your story, Alyssa. Now let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a Real Estate Agent working with Uriah Real Estate Organization in San Antonio, Tx. What sets me apart from other realtors is my “why”. It is very sentimental to me and the driving force behind how hard I work. All of my efforts stem from providing a life for my children that I didn’t have. I hustle with the best intentions and work with transparency and honesty/integrity to ensure the best outcomes and service for my clients.

My warm and caring nature assists me in how I handle business with my clients as selling/buying real estate can be a very sentimental process as well for clients. It takes a special type of person to trust during these life-changing transactions. And the more you understand your clients, the more trust is established, which then results in a smoother process for all parties.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I learned to speak Spanish, I am extremely adventurous and like to try new exhilarating things, I do not like cold weather at all, I either cook deliciously or almost burn the house down-always a hit or miss, and my favorite place to be is on the beach, bike riding makes me feel so free and happy.
