Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Pavlova.
Hi Angelica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
It all started in 2014 in my home country, Russia, when I, as a teenage girl, was passionate about making it, watching YouTube tutorials. I was so crazy about making it that I would do it on myself every day, and many of my friends and relatives would always ask me to do a glam on them, but I was always afraid to do something on others. One year later, my mother gifted me a professional makeup course as a birthday gift. I went to makeup school for 2 weeks, and at that time, I fell in love with makeup even more. I started doing it with my friends & family, and it went well. I would be doing my girlfriend’s makeup during the college breaks. I was very eager to practice. In 2019 I married and moved to the United States, where a new career path awaited me. I started as a freelancer and worked at the salon, and in the end, I created my studio, which is a photo studio with my glam corner inside where I take my clients nowadays. I’m still learning to make up and taking at least 3 online/offline makeup classes yearly to improve my skills and bring the best to my previous clients.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
I cannot say it was smooth because all roads have ups and downs, but I feel like I had more ups, which I’m very grateful for in my personal story. One thing I know for sure: the best way to obtain knowledge is to practice a lot and not be afraid to make mistakes. We all learn from our own mistakes, and they make us grow incredibly
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a professional makeup artist. I’ve been doing makeup since 2015 but full time 2 years. My specialty is soft glam makeup because I love seeing thin layers of makeup, which is trendy right now. I love glowy, elegant looks. I would say it matches my aesthetic. I usually work with individual lashes only with my clients ( those lash clusters you put individually). As far as I know, I was the first to do them in San Antonio and even had other makeup artists taking classes on how to apply them. They give you a natural but still voluminous look. I also do bridal, film, and special event makeup. I did commercial work for San Antonio’s law firms, restaurants, and businesses—music videos for Tejano singers in Texas and Fashion Week in San Antonio in 2022.
What changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I want to continue growing as a makeup artist. My dream goal is to become a celebrity makeup artist. Also, I would love to continue working on my social media, keep glamming my gorgeous clients, and teaching my students makeup which I enjoy doing.
