Hi Veronica, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Where to begin! In the ’80s, my parents opened a Knitting Store at 512 River Road. Over the next 3 decades, the shop became the most beautiful, unique Toyshoppe in the Texas Hill Country with gifts for all ages. In 2009 my mother, Denise Mazal, and I turned our property next door into an Authentic Czech Restaurant, Little Gretel. She was our Executive Chef, and I ran the front of the house for the past 14 years serving Czech Kolaches to Eggs Benedict, Jager Schnitzel and Burgers, German sausage plates, Red Snapper, and more. Then the beginning of my story started. The City of Boerne needed more nightlife, and I always wanted to open up a bar in town. In 2017 I turned my parent’s Toyshoppe, Ewe & Eye, into a full-service Cocktail Bar. After six months of remodeling, TABC licensing, and endless work, we opened Salvador Dobbs Cocktail & Bar in January 2018. For the past 5 years, my staff and I have created an incredible nightlife here in town, with delicious cocktails, draft beer, bubbles, wine, and more. Salvador Dobbs offers many games, including darts, pool, shuffleboard, cornhole, Karaoke on Thursday nights, Live Music with the most incredibly talented artists around Texas, Nashville, and more. We have daily Happy Hour Specials and drink specials, and we overlook Cibolo creek with a fabulous patio with swings and a fire pit. We are open daily from 3 pm-Midnight, and the party never ends here.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Loaded question! After a successful 2 years of operation, COVID hit. Shut us down for 7 months! That was hard. But we managed to hang in there, and my staff returned stronger than ever. We temporarily added ” food ” to get our doors back open in January 2021. What a trip that was. I am so thankful for our community and the support we received after we got our doors reopened. My team has kept us running strong and continues to entertain our guests daily!
We’ve been impressed with Salvador Dobbs, but for folks who might need to be more familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart?
Salvador Dobbs is a Cocktail Bar here in Boerne, TX. We are inspired by a New York industrial look with a hidden speakeasy to top it off. Our bar was named after my father’s uncle, Salvador Mazal, the co-founder and Chairman of the Board of a famous hat company in New York in the 20s & 30s called Dobbs Hats. We have on display many original Dobbs hat boxes around the bar. Our town is unique as there is only one other full liquor bar. We cater to the new 21-year-old and up to the age of 99! All walks of life come through our doors and enjoy our unique bar daily. We are the hit for after-wedding parties, the spot to celebrate your birthday, and our music room offers an intimate experience with our talented musicians that hit the stage on the weekends. We offer many different whiskeys, even some local brands, top-shelf must-haves, vodkas from all over, tequilas you can’t hide from, and so much more.
