Today we’d like to introduce you to Virendrasinh Chauhan.
Hi Virendrasinh, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was raised in a lower-middle-class family in India. I was the youngest among three siblings. Our family believes education is the best investment in life, so we always focus on education. Due to my high grade and excellent performance in the college entrance exam, I was admitted into one of the most prestigious universities in India with a full scholarship. I became a dentist at 22 and decided to further my education in the United States. It was impossible to enroll in a dental school directly; therefore, I enrolled in an MBA program in healthcare management to get a foothold in the US healthcare system. I was preparing for the national board exams to get into Dental school during my two-year program. It was a tough first two years in the new country, but my hard work paid off when I was admitted into New York University in the advanced placement program.
Unfortunately, I needed money to pay the deposit and secure admission. However, faith was on my side, and my Uncle’s friend, whom I only met once, offered to co-sign an approximately $300000 student loan to finish my education. I firmly believe this quote from the Alchemist “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” During my DDS Program, I met my beautiful soul mate. After 6 months of dating, we decided to get married. After finishing school, I decided to start my career in a new place with potential growth and move to San Antonio, Texas, in 2013. I started my first job as a Dentist in a busy practice. This is where I advanced my clinical and management skills. My wife and I are blessed with financial awareness and prioritized paying off student loans. My philosophy is taking calculated risks, and I decided to buy a bankrupt dental office. Due to the low initial investment, I was financially relaxed. This helped me provide excellent dental care compassionately to the San Antonio community. I treated every patient as my family member. “Love and compassion are the Mother and Father of a smile. We need to create more smiles in our world today. Smiles, after all, pave the way to a happy world,” Maraboli wrote in Life, the Truth, and Being Free. Due to the love of our patients and the necessary demand, I decided to expand my practice with more room and the latest technology.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Entrepreneurship comes with many rewards and equally with many challenges. One of the biggest challenges was our second baby, Shakti, was born prematurely with Down syndrome. She was in NICU (Neonatal intensive care unit) for two months. When she was 18 months old, she was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia and was again hospitalized for 6 months. She was treated with intensive chemotherapy, but the smile on her face gave me the courage to fight obstacles during that time. I believe every obstacle in life brings new opportunities. After her discharge, I took her to many clinics for specialist visits. I faced challenges with Phone answering services, long wait times, tedious paperwork, and a delayed appointment system. The challenges I faced as a patient’s parent helped me learn to provide a better healthcare service with a patient-centric approach. So I changed my dental office accordingly and provided same-day dental appointments for dental emergencies, phone call answering with tracking, and accepting phone calls even during non-business hours. Our patients can also book appointments on the website at any time. We also provide AI Chat Bot which answers simple patient questions on our website. Due to these changes, our office gets compliments from our patients for this approach.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the beautiful sunny weather in our city. The citizens of San Antonio have showered me with their love and accepted me as one of their own. People around here are very polite, friendly, and hospitable. San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the country, but it still gives you that small-town love. What I like least about the city is the constant battle with irritating allergies. The biggest culprit is mountain cedars. The season runs from November thru March, with the worst months being January and February.
