Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Davila.
Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, thank you for giving me this space. I am originally from Monterrey, Mexico, but I have found my home here in San Antonio, Texas where I live with my three children and my husband whom are the source of my motivation and inspiration. Since a young age, I developed a special interest for marketing and design which lead me to pursue a degree in marketing and shortly after a diploma in the Art Institute of New York. While still living in Monterrey, Mexico, my best friend and I leaded a successful business focused in setting up dessert tables for special events such as baptisms, weedings, and parties, which we decided to close after we both became mothers 10 years ago. Little did I know that my passion was too strong to keep me away from creative spaces, reason why soon after my second child was born I went back to business by preparing and organizing everything for parties, from balloons to designing and creating custom made piñatas, every time I had a chance while maneuvering with my busy mom-life. Funny enough my business took off during the COVID-19 pandemic when the balloon bouquet I set up for my son’s 7th birthday party was a complete sensation and Bloonhouse was then born. From there everything blew up.
Would it have been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?Fortunately, it has been a smooth road. At the beginning, I had a lot of self-doubt, for I still have my youngest daughter at home and therefore thought it was going to be so hard to run a business with her at my side 24/7. But I wanted to challenge myself. I pushed through it to pursuit my passion, and thankfully my husband and three kids have been supportive and have adapted perfectly. I now can see all of my fears where all in my head!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I consider myself an artist. It takes a lot of patience, practice, attention to detail, good eye, but mostly passion to create beautiful balloon garlands, paint heliumballoons, combine different colors and textures, in order to create something unique that cohesively enhance the experience of my clients’ events. Everybody can make balloon arrangements, but details matter. When you pour your heart into your work and see it as something for you, not just for the money, it intrinsically sets you apart from everybody else. Also, I am proud to announce Bloonhouse officially has expanded to design and provide personalized envelopes, tags, and stationary for all of you events and family announcements.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Everybody should take risks. Otherwise, we are always in our comfort zone. A risk is a way to move forward, to know if you succeeded or failed at the task, but I don’t see failure as bad; it’s more like an opportunity to grow and learn. Regarding risk-taking, I took several big jobs at first without any major experience. I knew I had the skills, so I didn’t think twice about it. In the end, everything turned out perfect, so it made me realize that I was ready to commit fully to my business.
