Today we’d like to introduce you to Nichele Wells.
Hi Nichele, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For starters, I have the “gift of gab!” I love meeting and talking to new people. I have over 17 years of experience in recruitment, sales, relationship building, customer service, and social media marketing. For many years, I have watched small businesses struggle because of the need for knowledge of how to navigate marketing on Social Media platforms and the lack of time invested in promoting their business. I decided to use my recruitment, sales, and marketing skills in podcasting and help promote small businesses. In 2019 I started my podcast, Hitting the Streets. My initial goal was to share the happenings in our town. However, when Covid-19 hit, I switched gears and decided to host a series of interviews with business owners, entrepreneurs, and nonprofit organizations. I aim to give the listeners an inside look at each guest’s organization and discover these amazing gems we have in the North Texas area.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t exactly call the road “smooth.” Challenges and struggles are an expected part of the process. I would call them “growth opportunities.” For instance, starting my podcast was one of the scariest things I have ever done. I was putting myself out in public and my fear was, “what if no one tunes in?”, “what if I fail?” I sat on my podcast idea for a while because I wanted it to be perfect, and trying to be perfect stopped me from moving forward. That little voice inside me said, “You can do this!” I took a leap of faith and recorded my first episode. I made a deliberate decision not to let fear guide me but let faith lead the way. My attitude became, “If I have one listener, that is better than zero.”
After I got the courage to start, COVID hit, which created another challenge with interviews due to the shutdown. However, I overcame this challenge by managing my interviews through zoom and over the phone. I had to adapt to situations that I could not control. Another challenge was inadequate sound equipment which affected the quality of my recordings. But one day, out of the blue, someone I had previously inspired gifted me with new equipment. I cried because this individual saw my potential and wanted to make sure I would succeed. The last hurdle I continue to work on is editing. It’s a challenge for every episode, but I don’t let it hold me back because it doesn’t have to be perfect.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
As I mentioned, I am a recruiter. Specifically, I specialize in medical and admin recruitment and am known for finding the “needle in the haystack.” Recruitment has taught me so many lessons, such as you need to be flexible, you need to manage your time wisely, you need patience, you can only please some, and you learn that only some are reliable. In the recruitment business, you get to know people more deeply about their situations and walks of life. Sometimes, you get to know their challenges and the tough times they are going through. My experience has broadened my listening skills and being more considerate of other people’s circumstances.
Why do I keep going? The satisfaction of knowing that I am an integral part of building something bigger than myself keeps me going. And, of course, my support system, my family, and my friends. I am most proud of my tenacity and what I have accomplished so far. There were many times I could have given up, but I worked hard and pushed past every hurdle on the road. Passion, strong vibration, integrity, and determination set me apart.
Let’s end by discussing what matters most to you and why.
What matters the most to me is giving back to my community. Spending time giving back to the people and places I love has had wonderful benefits for me and the organizations I work with. One of the biggest blessings of volunteering in my community is the personal growth I have experienced. Participating in community events, volunteering, and putting on fundraisers for our local non-profits has taught me so much about giving, and I have met some wonderful people along the way. One of my goals is to create change through art and culture and focus on the communities that are underserved and overlooked. Giving back is so important. There is no limit to the good you can do for your community.
