Hidden Gems: Meet Laura L. Kirby of LLK Consulting LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura L. Kirby.

Hi Laura, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to introduce yourself.
Nineteen years of experience as an automotive industry finance and insurance manager, working with clients and lenders throughout the day to secure each customer’s most appropriate and desired lending term options. I planned on exiting the corporate but needed clarification on what and how to start a business. I decided to utilize my professional skills and excellent connecting skills to perform the same type of work but to assist businesses with shopping their commercial loan options and facilitating their loan process from beginning to end. The majority of my clients have been, and are, repeats and referrals from prominent business professionals. Every client has been a sophisticated client possessing a high net worth. Each believes their time is more valuable conducting their day-to-day operations in the business(es) to spend a plethora of time shopping for the appropriate lender for their specific needs. Not a single client has objected to outsourcing my services for a small fee about the value of their time.

Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I forced myself to return to school to obtain my master’s in law with TX A&M School of law, focused on Wealth Management. This was very challenging initially, mostly because the technology was such a major factor in the education process which I was not accustomed to. My greatest challenge was removing my corporate blinders and thinking with a more entrepreneurial mindset. And as many of the professionals you work with, the good ol’ pandemic certainly forced me into a challenging position, mostly for occurring so quickly after leaving a stable paying position with benefits to being a full-time graduate student and owner of a startup process.

Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share? We’re always looking for lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis.
Absolutely! Most importantly, only sometimes trust what the media pushes on the public. Conduct your research. Their agenda is only occasionally in the best interest of the people. Rather, it can be directed around their best interest. Fight for your rights as an individual and as a small business owner. Don’t always count on the govt. Whether for financial assistance with social aid or Medicaid. Medicare, Social Security, etc. Not on behalf of the government. We, as individuals, must ensure we are prepared for any travesty on our own. Regarding business, our current government assisted wall street and major corporations (like the auto industry and banks) in 2008-2011 more than they did small businesses all across the U.S.A. amidst a global pandemic and forced lockdown.
