Rising Stars: Meet Adriana Christian of North Central

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Christian.

Hi Adriana, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The pandemic was such a weird time for many. I felt like I was losing myself in my job and the world’s many problems. I was in desperate need of an outlet. My best friends from high school jokingly told me I would make a great influencer since I had a small following and was already posting my outfits. So in January 2021, I started posting to monetize my Instagram account, and I haven’t looked back. Over the past few years, I have worked with brands such as ThirdLove, Ricos, Ole Henriksen, and JoyRun, to name a few. I would have never imagined this would be my life.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This road has had its ups and downs. The most difficult parts are staying consistent with creating content and imposture syndrome. Many creators can relate to this. Life sometimes gets in the way, or a creative block happens, and getting back to that place can be difficult. Sometimes I feel defeated, but I have the best support system to lift me and get me back on course. However, I feel unstoppable once I get back into that creative space!

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love fashion! When my friends visit and need an outfit, they shop through my closet for things to wear. This has been happening since college! For as long as I can remember, I have been creating outfits and testing the latest trends. I have a background in research, so I spend hours researching the latest fashion trends, what’s coming out on the runways, and what colors are trending for the upcoming season. When I started looking for fashion influencers and content creators to follow, I needed help finding someone to relate to. I followed the popular ones but finding fashion influencers of color and similar to my body type took a lot of work. So I decided to be that person!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check?
When I’m shooting content, I use my iPhone 12 Pro and a tripod with a ring light I bought from amazon. Next, I use Inshot to edit my videos and Adobe Lightroom to edit photos. When finding a caption for my posts and video, I tend to look through Pinterest! It’s a great resource for inspiration for captions as well as content and outfits. When researching trends, I gravitate to Vogue, InStyle, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, and WHO WHAT WEAR articles. I also follow fashion editors and digital directors on TikTok, such as Abby Silverman and Bella Gerard.
