Hi Mallory, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I’m Mallory, the owner of Groovy Petal Boutique! I’m originally from a small town called Port Lavaca, TX but have lived in San Antonio for about five years now. I’m a wife, dog mom to 3 chocolate labs, and lover of God, coffee, and fashion.
My love of fashion was inherited from my mom at a very young age. She always had me matching from my bows all the way down to my socks! Our favorite thing to do together is shop. We could spend all day thrifting or look for good deals! My friends have always complimented my sense of style and would encourage me to start a boutique, so it would make sense that I start an online boutique right? Wrong!
After I graduated high school I decided to take a safer path financially and obtained a degree in Radiology as a Radiologic Technologist. I worked full-time for a mobile company and then a hospital for about six years. We could only wear scrubs to work so I would wear fun hair accessories or shoes to add some personal style! After the pandemic hit I cut back from the medical field and started a fashion blog!
Deep down I still felt like something was missing career-wise. It’s always been a dream of mine to open a coffee shop/clothing boutique. Somewhere you can sip and shop, or relax and read a good book but leave with a cute outfit!
Fast forward to June of 2022, with the support and push of my husband I decided to take a chance and move one step closer to that dream with an online boutique.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As any small business owner knows, it’s never a smooth road starting off. Entrepreneurship can definitely be a rollercoaster ride but it’s rewarding in the end when you have return customers!
For me, my biggest obstacle would be learning to balance everything. You take on many roles when you are a solo employee. I’ve had to learn how to – do business taxes, advertise and market my business by staying consistent on social media, the highs and lows of handling inventory, and become a model and a photographer!
I love doing pop-up markets and building a small community with customers and vendors, but many people don’t realize how much work actually goes into setting up for these markets. Specifically in this Texas heat!

Groovy Petal is an online and pop-up boutique based out of Texas, that offers trendy, unique fashion with a vintage flare! Think today’s streetwear with a 70’s twist! We sell women’s clothing, jewelry, and hair accessories all under $50 and offer free shipping on all U.S. orders. My main goal for the boutique is to have high-quality pieces that add some fun to your wardrobe without breaking the bank. I love bold and colorful things! I believe fashion is the best way to express yourself so why not make it fun? Wearing a cute outfit can do so much for your mood!
I am extremely proud of my branding. It took me a few months to be satisfied with everything because I wanted it to be perfect and fit who I am and what my style represents. The definition of “Groovy” is fashionable and exciting and when I think of Petals I think of colorful, bright petals scatted everywhere. Therefore, Groovy Petal was born! I utilized Canva so much and was able to create my own logo, business cards, hang tags, and all my graphics for the website and social media. As far as my setup for markets I stick to pink tones with a boho disco vibe! Let me tell you, I have received many compliments from a variety of customers. From the older generation to all the curious men. We typically strike up a good conversation about how fashion has made a complete 360! They usually tell me my space has a very inviting and groovy vibe, and always leave with a smile! That is exactly how I want you to feel when you shop with GP! We are all about delivering smiles and styles!
You can typically find us at the Elsewhere a few Thursdays a month or Helotes Market Days. (1st Saturday of each month) Vibe with us on social media to be the first to know when new arrivals are or when our next market is!
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Every day is a learning curve being that I’m only four months in. One thing I can say is to take the chance! That dream was put in your heart for a reason! Putting my faith over my fear and launching Groovy Petal has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! San Antonio is full of successful entrepreneurs who are eager to help and give you advice. I love that so much! Community over the competition! There is room at the top for everyone so why not cheer for each other to get there?
I am beyond proud of my little business and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for Groovy Petal!
