Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Stevens.
Hi Samantha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’ve always been ambitious and had an entrepreneurial spirit but I never truly expected to live a life in which I get to create and make money off of my creativity! As a former teacher and a mother of 4, I was constantly seeking an identity that didn’t rely on anyone else. My first shot at starting a business was in 2020 at the height of the pandemic. My husband and I were introduced to Dungeons & Dragons by some of our best friends and lo and behold we had fun! We became so invested in playing & learning about the ins and outs of D&D that my husband decided to start painting miniatures.
He got so incredibly good at painting them that we knew we needed to share his work. We opened up an Etsy shop just for “funsies” and we actually started selling his hand-painted minis! The Mage’s Hand has its ups and downs, like any new and small business, but it’s thriving because we put our all into it. While running our Etsy shop, handling the business side of it, and configuring our website, I started to realize my passion for website creation and copywriting. I always loved creative writing – I taught English after all – but copywriting is something I never tried before we started The Mage’s Hand. Now I have a copywriting/web design business where I work with clients in education, birth & midwifery, and parenting!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been easy managing my businesses. The biggest challenge has been the times when our sales are slow, clients are not interested in my services, and when time gets away from me! Being a mom of 4 takes up a lot of my time & sometimes it’s difficult to find the time to run my businesses, but I value my time with my family so much and never have regrets.

I’m a writer, planner, web designer, and entrepreneur who specializes in copywriting for clients in education, midwifery, and parenting. I love writing for clients who want to strengthen their message and keep their unique voices. Because I am a former teacher, writing for education companies and consultants is a huge passion of mine, but I also have a unique perspective on midwifery because I had two very empowering birth experiences with my two youngest & I couldn’t have done it without the support of my midwife.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I would have to say my strong sense of commitment is most important to my success. When I set my mind on something, I commit 100%.
