Rising Stars: Meet Janice Walker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janice Walker.

Hi Janice, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I am from Philadelphia. After my military service with the United States Navy. I moved to San Antonio. I am an Active Directory engineer for a tech firm. I also own my business, Moon Walker balloons.

After helping my sister at my nephew’s 1st birthday, I started creating balloon garlands. As I did research and watched countless YouTube videos, I became enamored. After completing a few setups for friends and family, I realized I had a passion that I wanted to pursue.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been some rough times. Covid -19 was difficult to maneuver. Eventually, we could put some policies in to keep everyone safe. I broke my foot at the beginning of the year, so I had to put a few projects on hold.

Thankfully, My clients are all understanding. Collaborating with other vendors can be difficult, but I approach everything with a positive attitude.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am fortunate enough to have my career in IT as an Active Directory engineer. As well as my business as an event planner/Balloon decor artist. I am most proud of my business because it’s my passion project.

I love creating events for my clients. I love to see their faces when they are happy with my work. It makes me happy and brings me joy. I specialize in Balloon Decor and prop rentals.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lessons I have learned in my journey are patience and consistency. Essential tools that I have learned and now apply to my personal life. I have known to be patient with myself and patient with others.

Sometimes their right time is different than mine. Consistency was hard for me after the military. I was afraid of routine. I have overcome many bad habits and am on a better track. The key is self-reflection and giving myself grace.
