Inspiring Conversations with Desiree Silva of Keeping It Social

Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree Silva.

Hi Desiree, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2017, my journey in marketing began with an internship working for the mouse himself, at Walt Disney World in Florida. Originally I majored in business management, but when I arrived most of my classes consisted of digital and social media marketing.

While attending, I was exposed to a whole other area of business that allowed my creative side to soar! Working on holiday campaigns, copy, and graphics. When I arrived back in San Antonio, I knew that social media marketing was what I wanted to do forever, so I began the steps to transition to the social media marketing field and created Keeping It Social in December 2019.

Keeping It Social started as a small business at the height of the pandemic and really took off from the start, as we helped many business owners across the U.S and the world transition their brick-and-mortar businesses to the online space. While we service all industries and entrepreneurs, our passions lie in helping empower women to strive for success and obtain their goals. Inspired by my mother who dealt with domestic abuse, our values lie in helping women build the business of their dreams so they can have enough time to focus on things and those that matter most to them.

Since starting we have worked with many driven and impactful thought leaders and entrepreneurs such as NFL player Bennie Fowler, sales speaker/coach Bella Verita from Unblinded, and many others.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all, I am a first-gen to graduate from school, and a first-gen entrepreneur for my family, so I had to learn and seek advice from mentors above me for my business.

The problem I had, was that I didn’t know what I didn’t know. For instance, registering my business in San Antonio was a first for me, it was also my first time in the court building.

Hiring team members was also super difficult, in the beginning, I hired based on personalities that were similar to mine which ended up being a problem because they were skilled in EXACTLY what I was skilled in, and I needed different skill sets aside from mine.

Managing clients was difficult at first, as I mentioned we grew pretty fast, and managing time and remembering clients’ requests required a ton of spreadsheets (which thankfully we no longer need because we have systems in place) that were just hard to locate and manage.

Sales were also not something that came naturally, there were many times when I stuttered or said a ton of “um’s” when talking to potential clients which made the interaction sometimes awkward.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Keeping It Social is a social media marketing company that specializes in helping women entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and experts increase their sales and lead gen with zero ads. We solely do organic marketing which is what sets us apart from most agencies. We thrive on building authentic connections and communities on social media, generating impactful content storytelling that creates raving fans.

While we definitely work with men, our passions lie in supporting impactful women business owners to create the legacy they wish to leave behind.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My biggest supporter, advocate, and cheerleader would be my mother. When I first told my parents about my new venture in business, they were shocked. I was breaking traditional molds and was steering into the unknown territory that comes with entrepreneurism.

My mother was a huge supporter in my early days of business and definitely encouraged me to continue during the days I wanted to quit. Back when I was first starting my business and creating my business page on Facebook (for instance), she was always the first to comment and share.

What I then saw as embarrassing, I appreciate now more than ever. She also is the inspiration behind my business’s mission.
