Meet Jason Ibarra

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Ibarra.

Hi Jason, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised on the Southeast side of San Antonio. I’ve been doing art & have been active in the local art scene since early 2000. To this day, I believe in helping our art community grow.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road has been bumpy to get where I am today but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Some of the struggles I have faced from basic learning about how to hang work for an opening and dealing with artists’ contracts, to putting together a simple portfolio have been a learning process. I definitely didn’t do it alone.

I had plenty of teachers, mentors & fellow artists that have helped me along the way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a mixed media artist who plays with pop culture, music & fashion as a focus.

I incorporate screen printing, and collage, I have had several proud moments in my art career. From shows, appearances invite to group exhibits. It’s hard to narrow it down. I am proud of the artist that I have become.

To me, what sets me apart is that these days, while still focusing on my art, but now giving other artists chances to get the work they make out, to studios, galleries or even markets gives me joy. Just the same tips my mentors gave me.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love my city. San Antonio has its own culture. From its strong history of music and art to even food. I just love my city. My Chicano root is deep in San Antonio.

I also love the dedicated artist that is in this city. My newest project The Rose Wolf Sellers Club (Rose wolves are my son & daughter’s middle names) has got so much support from buying local artist Market. I least like the gentrification.
