Today we’d like to introduce you to Brilla Bueno.
Hi Brilla, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
At a very young age, I was very active and interested in performing. I would often mimic my favorite artists and perform my favorite songs from them in front of people (whoever was willing to listen) anywhere from the flea markets, downtown sidewalks or school events, etc.
Eventually entering my teens, I heavily involved myself in theatre. After graduating, I knew I wanted to continue performing as an actress/ artist so on my own (after moving to San Antonio) I began to research local film or theatre groups to connect with.
At some point, I was extremely active as a film actress as well as a live arts body paint performer. I can honestly say I have been consistent with performing for over 10 years now in the local community. I have also performed my own poetry at local events.
Music was the only art form I had not dabbled in due to severe insecurities, although it was my first interest and passion before acting. Because of the support system I have now, I am able to release those insecurities and fears. Thanks to my friends, mentor, and partner.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but I’m sure that’s a normal response for any artist if I’m being honest it is mainly due to the fact that I held myself back from pursuing this journey for so long.
The idea of becoming an artist was rejected and negatively looked down upon by people who at the time mattered to me so their opinions or feedback did indeed impact me. Certain family members, past partners to even friends who had a competitive character would really make me feel insignificant in pursuing such a journey, but again I take fault for holding myself back for so long.
But I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by the right people today, who are supportive and willing to help me progress as an artist. Shout out to my friend/mentor (Chris Talavera), who produced my first single! And again, thanks to my partner for not only shooting my video but encouraging me to just go for it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My “normal day job” is working as a community pharmacy tech.
I am also currently in the process of entering nursing school. I wouldn’t say there’s a specific proud moment, but there are many moments that I am proud of my team for going above and beyond for our customers in regard to their health.
As an artist/performer, I would say that I have made many accomplishments and have won many titles of recognition whether it be in acting or body art performance, I have won awards solo and in teams, so there are many moments that I reflect back on that I am proud of.
I can’t say whether anything really sets me apart from others especially if we’re talking about artists, but what I do know is that I am extremely passionate about art overall and that I am willing to place myself in every avenue of it to understand and grow as a person.
I also am super supportive of the locals, even when I don’t have a close relationship, I make it a point to let them know that I appreciate their hard work.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next 5-10 years, I would like to be done with school so I can not only expand on my education but invest more money into my creative projects and by then I hope to have progressed as an artist where I can travel to perform.
I would very much like to perform under incredible lineups for big artists and land bigger acting roles for the film. I see myself traveling more for these opportunities and having more confidence of self-worth to do such things.
