Today we’d like to introduce you to Madre Herb & More.
Hello Madre Herb & More, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello! My name is Anny and together with my partner, Les we created Madre Herb & More!
Les and I met in 2012 and formed a relationship in 2015. Life has definitely been a roller coaster for us and neither one of us knew where life would take us. What we both knew was that we eventually wanted to get away from the corporate world and be able to take care of our families.
There is so much life to live and so many places to see, with just 2 weeks of PTO. We tried many different things, and failed many different times, from book sourcing to FBA to print shop. we tried it all. We were able to generate some income from each but nothing permanent. We eventually got busy with life and felt like we really had no time for our side hustles.
During the pandemic we both lost our jobs, so like many, this is when our Madre Herb & More journey started!
Madre Herb & More has been inspired by the resiliency and tenacity of plants & our mothers! After trying so many different things, we realized that there was one thing that we were both so passionate about, truly believed in, and both grew up with. Herbs!
There is healing power in being cared for, a power that mothers seem to possess innately. As children, we believed that a mother’s touch could cure us of any ailment or illness. Whether pain was internal or external, mothers always seemed to know precisely how to relieve us.
Both coming from Hispanic families, as children, when we were sick instead of going to the doctor we would end up in our mother’s kitchen. Teas were all the remedies we needed. Passed down and learned from our mothers is exactly what makes our company and thus the reason for our Name.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! We tried many different things and failed many different times. It’s hard to start a business with minimal income. We had to pause our plans for some time because of income restrictions.
On top of losing our jobs and spending money on trying to get our business going, we actually lost money at first. It was hard to stay motivated knowing we had many restless nights and still losing money.
In addition to that, finding resources and assistance for small business owners can be challenging and overwhelming. These are very real struggles, especially for the everyday person trying to get ahead with their business.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Our mission is to bridge ancient remedies to the modern world. Working with plant medicine is our passion & heart of this business.
Our goal is to bring light to these amazing plants that not too long ago were the staple food & medicine of the people. We want to see more people have access to these herbs and the education to use them safely and respectfully.
We want to bridge the gap between food as medicine and medicine as food by promoting products that are meant to be used in our everyday lives. We specialize in herbal blends.
However, we also promote well-being and healthy minds through positivity items made or customized by us.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
We LOVE books! So you will find a few books on every corner of our house! It’s hard to decide since I have a few favorites but, FLOW is always my go-to.
For Les, her favorite is the four agreements. Some of our favorite podcasts are On purpose with Jay Shetty, The self-love fix, Mood with Lauren Elizabeth, and anything that goes with Emma.
