Daily Inspiration: Meet Amanda Alarcon-Hunter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Alarcon-Hunter. Them and their team share their story with us below:

A San Antonio native, Amanda has been in the fashion industry for over 25+ years and designing for herself even longer. She owns several businesses and continues to design, style, and accessorize others on a daily basis. As an artist from an early age, her art and design work has always been about empowering the individual.

Amanda loves to collaborate with other artists and designers and has planned and executed many fashion shows, events, and philanthropic initiatives. Amanda has a big place in her heart for the environment and as a humanitarian her main approach is to bring focus on sustainable fashion to the forefront.

She has a unique untamed ability to take broken, unwanted, discarded objects and bring them to life! She calls this Object Vertu, which in French means “The love of or taste for curious objects d’art”. Her rare reworked reclaimed vintage textiles are what is new to the runway that was showcased recently on Earth Day April 22, 2022, for the Untamable-The Sustainable Fashion Show.

Her works of wearable art are selling worldwide to the modern fashionista, who consciously looks for unique designs and modern trends but who also wants to address the responsibilities of the fashion industry. Her business continues to grow as she also continues to advocate for more slow fashion awareness in the industry. We always encourage sustainability and help keep objects out of landfills.

We only use what is already available, circulating and what has already been in existence for many, many years and
we will continue to work this way. Our passion is to work and rework and recreate while making a difference.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Although I have been an entrepreneur for many years, self-employment always comes with its challenges no matter how prepared you think you are.

It is very important to be proactive versus reactive when planning projects, promoting products and dealing with customers online and in person. As a growing company with our main presence being online, I have had to learn all kinds of social media platforms and extensive marketing.

I am a person always up for solving problems and handling challenges. One of my strengths is strategy, so this strength has helped me a lot with expanding and growing my business while collaborating with many other creatives in our town.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My mission as a Vintage Curator, Object Artist, Fashion Activist, and Sustainable Designer is to bring new styles of up-cycled and re-purposed products you can feel great about, through a sustainable business model that diverts waste.

Our business is designed to transform unusable and unwanted items into stylish styles that are both fashionable and accessible to the everyday market. As fast fashion, and the culture that supports it, continue to take a massive toll on our environment, we recognize and understand the need for strong upcycling programs and or businesses.

We also understand the importance of the intention that we owe to our society and environment. We at Minx and Onyx Vintage and Designs by Amanda Alarcon-Hunter are truly dedicated to collecting, redesigning, and making available to you newly recycled designed jewelry and eclectic vintage items

What do you think about happiness?
Happiness what does that mean to me and what makes me happy: To be true to oneself and set out to be different from others. To be individualistic and express your creative side.

I have always been an old soul and I have always been my happiest when I am able to express my true being, my true purpose, and my vision to make the world a better place. I have always done my very best to help others in as many ways as possible. I am a true philanthropist, human rights activist, and advocate for all.

I created a sustainable business to lead by example so that one can be conscious of the environment, animals, and their health, and be happy. To be happy is not hard to do, one just must simply be and open their hearts to their true nature within.
