Life & Work with Christian Talavera

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Talavera.

Hi Christian, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello! My name is Chris. I grew up in California for the first part of my years and then moved to Oahu, Hawaii for 9 years.

In 2007 my family moved us to Texas where it really felt like home.

Just like in Hawaii, everyone was so nice here in San Antonio.

Although my family is now back in California, I stood here in San Antonio for not only music purposes but it really did feel like home to me AND I would not have met my Wife!

I instantly knew I wanted to do something with music and that was to play on stage with friends and create memories. So I did just that.

I was in a couple of Rock bands that I helped create, playing shows at the White Rabbit and warped tour whenever it came through SA.

All while I was doing this, I was learning to record my own music via Cubase (A music creation Software).

Fast Forward to 2018 I had quit my previous Rock band (LifeLike) to pursue a solo path making music that I felt was more Me.

That solo path is called Prsnt.

With the exception of a couple of Prsnt songs I have released, I Produce, Mix, Master and Engineer all the music.

I quickly realized that “Hey why don’t I help out other artists with their sound and their ideas and bring them to life!?”

So that’s where I created Vibe-Rant Studios which now collectively has 22 active clients.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would be lying if I said it was smooth!

I’ve definitely overcome drinking alcohol to mask the pain that life likes to send us all. I also used to smoke a lot which I overcame as well.

All glory be to God who really pulled me out of that darkness and into the light.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
When I am not working on Prsnt, I am a Mixing and Mastering Audio Engineer.

In short, I not only press record but I love pushing the artist to their best potential to get the most optimal take, whether that be a vocal or guitar take.

When a client walks into Vibe-Rant Studios, I try and adapt to how they are feeling and see how they are moving.

That way I could really try and step into their shoes when we do start the writing process. It allows me to pick out certain sounds while looking out for a reaction from them subtly.

I am really proud of not giving up and staying on course even with all the voices around telling me otherwise. I’ve learned to follow the voice in my head but all lately Following God’s voice.

I’d like to think the thing that sets me apart from others is that I’m an open book and do my best to stay kind and soft-hearted no matter what you bring to the table.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
One thing that may surprise them is that I like to build things!

Lately, I have been building acoustic treatment for my studio and may…just may start a company doing that on the side!
