Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendy Hindahl.
Hi Kendy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi!
When God led my family & I to move here from Iowa almost 5 years ago, we were in a new space where we seek what we are meant to do. I am a Deaf stay at home mom, and when my 3 CODAS (Children of Deaf Adults) started going to school full time, I knew I needed to seek for something to keep myself busy, as well as an opportunity to meet new people.
When I first started out, making earrings by hand was a side hobby until people I knew started to buy my earrings and this turned into something bigger!! In 2019, without realizing I would become a business owner, Kenela & Co. was founded. With demand, hand cutting was becoming impossible. This is when we invested into a laser machine to broaden endless possibilities and ideas on new earring designs!
My passion in this business is continue being inspired to come up with new earrings & accessories, give back to the communities & help great causes reach their goals. I also love to serve customers, who I‘ve became friends with within the US, internationally & in the New Braunfels area.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Yes, there have been struggles. One of the biggest challenges I have faced is prioritizing my life as a business owner. As a business owner, it takes endless hours to do research, seek your niche/audience & know my foundation.
With this, it can lead to forgetting who you are as an person and those who love you. Having a well balanced life with family and owning a business is critical. Making time for yourself is important to keep succeeding. Ask for help if you need!!
Without these challenges, there would not be any self growth.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Deaf woman business owner, who do laser cut earrings and accessories. I am also known for doing fundraisers for great causes and collaborating with other small businesses. I am most proud of those who strive to work hard to reach goals to help others.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
What I wish I could have done before opening this business, to have an actual business plan. Without a plan, there would be obstacles and uncertainty. I also learned to never reject the help when offered!
