Meet Christina Welch of House of Colour San Antonio – North

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Welch.

Hi Christina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Making an impact, building confidence, and empowering women through style has been at the heartbeat of what I’ve done for more than 20 years. Whether it was through my position as the Public Relations Manager for Macy’s in Texas where – among many of the hats I wore – was emceeing fashion shows and appearing on TV shows to talk style and trends to building and leading a multi-million dollar sales organization with the social-selling brand Stella & Dot; from championing local businesses through my 2005 book “Wear to Shop” to representing the City of San Antonio to talk Texas Style on the Today Show with Kathie Lee & Hoda, I’ve always believed that fashion and style have the power to work from the outside in and the inside out – when you look good, you feel good; and when you feel good, it emanates from the inside out.

In mid-2020, my social channels began buzzing with before-and-after photos of women who had experienced color analysis. I got real curious real fast! Mostly because I wanted to shop and felt overwhelmed with all the colors that were available, and also to fill my cup with something fun. It was 2020 after all. As a wife whose husband was once in an office and now in the house full-time and two tween/teen boys who pivoted to online school, those early months of the pandemic had me feeling as if I was pouring from an empty cup, taking care of everyone around me in the most unprecedented of times. Color Analysis seemed like I’d get valuable information and I’d pour into myself with a day to myself. Because there was no one to go to in San Antonio, I booked an appointment and drove 3 hours each way to experience color analysis.

Learning my colors was magical. Not only with what colors to look for in clothing, but also in hair, makeup, and jewelry. To see before my very eyes that warmer colors made me look bland and sallow and that bright, cool colors instantly made me look healthy, dynamic, and visible was transformational. An example: color analysis helped me understand why when I wore the very on-trend “must-have” olive green color that was everywhere, I felt like I’d need to add more makeup to look better, when in fact, it wasn’t me…it was only that I needed to change my green to a cool emerald or pine green. On my long drive home, my wheels began spinning and one thought was at the top of my mind: “everyone needs to experience this!”

A few weeks later, I took the House of Colour Style Class, and was hooked on the entire process. Color was the first piece of the puzzle and Style Analysis – a service in which you learn the clothes that best fit and flatter your frame AND that also considers personality to honor the styles that feel authentic and empowering for you – completed that puzzle.

House of Colour San Antonio – North opened in February 2021, and today, offers both color analysis and style analysis services. Together, both services are the ultimate one-two punch to communicating your personal brand through color and style, making you more approachable, authoritative, confident, and comfortable in your own skin.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Some of the obstacles and challenges that I hear when my clients come to me are that they feel “meh” and “bleh” when they go to get dressed. A feeling of overwhelm when it comes to trends and what to buy. Not knowing what to wear anymore. Purchasing items that look good on someone else and being influenced because it looked so cute on her or that it was a “must have”. Putting on a color and feeling like something is off, but they can’t pinpoint the issue. That we’re going to “take away” colors that they can wear or that “my mom has this done in the 80s!”

All are valid and none of these are surprising. Now, more than ever, we are inundated with an abundance of choices. It’s the blessing and the curse of what we have at our fingertips with social media, ads targeted to us, and so much available from online and IRL retailers. We will never tell you that you can’t wear something, but we do show you what and WHY you can wear what you can. Knowing your best colors and style helps you edit your choices. When you walk into a store or look online, you can scan and instantly know if a color will work for you. Knowing your best styles will help you discern if you can embrace a trend that flatters you or if you can let it pass. When applied over time, you eliminate overwhelm and embrace clarity when shopping and getting dressed.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about House of Colour | San Antonio – North?
House of Colour San Antonio-North helps you communicate who you are (aka your personal brand) through color and style. Your personal style picture is composed of 3 elements: color, dressing your body and honoring your personality that come with 2 signature services: Color Analysis and Style Analysis.

1. During Color Analysis, you’ll learn which colors harmonize with your undertones and make you look your best. We call your color palette your season – Winter, Summer, Spring, or Autumn. Your season is but a quarter of the billions of colors that exist. They look good on you and also coordinate with one another. All your clothes mix and match when you use your color palette! You also learn your best makeup, jewelry, and hair colors. You take home an information book, as well as a color fan that shows you a sampling of the colors that love you best.

2. During Style Analysis, you’ll learn the WHAT of your personal style. That’s the part that determines what types of clothing will look good on you based on your frame and what you can carry that fits and flatters how you are built. This is independent of weight; knowing this is accomplished with a few simple measurements, most all of which are vertical.⁣

3. Also during Style Analysis, we take into account your personality. In fact, we’re the only image consultancy that uses a personality test to brings WHO you are into the equation of personal style to honor the inner you. This helps you make sense of the things you put on that looked cute, but just don’t translate or feel right, and it confirms the things that you love and why you love them. Your Clothing Personality provides guidance on accessories, scale, patterns, and style details that make you feel like YOU.
