Hi Diisis, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started because I was in a sink or swim type of situation. It was a very spur of the moment decision because I knew I did not want to work for anyone else anymore. So with the push and encouragement from my husband I started working on all the paperwork I knew I would need and applied from my business license and did not look back. I found a little room to rent out in Universal City and started a Groupon. It was rough! I don’t even think I cleared $1,000 my first month. I started passing out fliers and cards everywhere! Business started picking up and I started gaining a steady, recurring clientele. I was able to move into a nicer suite and in return off more services. I am excited to see how this summer will go, since I will hit a year in business in April.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Many tears have been cried and I wanted to give up many times but I knew that wasn’t an option. In my first space, my ceiling fell in while I was out with Covid and I had water damage to some of my products. Another struggle that I had to face was starting from the ground up. I had maybe 5 clients follow me from my previous place of employment and the rest came organically or found me later on. It has been an ongoing learning experience with running a business, when to order supplies, provide customer service, make sure everything is there when you need it opposed to just showing up for work. Would I change anything? Not at all.

Honey Jar Wax Bars provides full body waxing for men and women. As well as other skin and body services such as facials, mommy 2 be belly facials, along with back and glute facials. I specialize in Brazilian waxing and corrective intimate skin care. I really enjoy helping my clients feel great about their skin. I have many clients that feel self conscious about thier skin, whether it is acne, ingrowns, discoloration and any other issues. I try to make my salon a safe and judgment free zone. No one that walks in my salon is just another number or just money. I try to establish a personal relationship with all of my clients and I want everyone I service to feel comfortable and know they never have anything to be ashamed of or shy about,
I want everyone to know that I am an inclusive, safe space and I take pride in all of my work. I tell everyone that comes in my room “We are besties now!” Come as yourself!
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t think I have been lucky, bad or good. Life happens the way it is supposed to. You just have to put action into what you want to get where you want and need to be.
I am grateful for every experience I have endured negative and positive because it has brung me to the place I am today.
