Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Chavez Victor.
Crystal, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Back in 2013, a precious little boy made his way into the world at 1 lb 2.3 oz. His name was Jeremiah and he was our son. We had lost his twin a month earlier and were praying for this miraculous boy each and every day. We were blessed with five beautiful months of watching him grow and LIVE in the NICU. During those days, some of his nurses would sing to him “Jeremiah was a Bullfrog”. On the day he turned 5 months old, he gained his wings and joined his older twin, Elijah, in Heaven.
Our lives were completely changed.
At the time, I was an elementary school teacher and Paul was a High School Math teacher. I knew I wanted to do something else with my life, but I wasn’t quite sure what.
In the months that followed our losses, I would stare and stare at the pictures we had of Jeremiah. I cherished them so much; I still do. That is when I decided I wanted to become a photographer. I wanted to be able to document life as it happens. I wanted to capture the memories that are gone too quickly. To share in the special moments with my clients and their families. And to capture the raw emotions of it all. And thus, Frog Prince Photography began.
In 2015, I went back to school and took all of the photography courses that San Antonio College had to offer. At that time, we were also contacted by a family wanting us to adopt their baby. Our son was born and adopted in February of 2016. This was also when I started my business. After years of infertility and going through fertility treatments, we became pregnant with our second and third sons on this side of Heaven. I am now a mom to three beautiful boys who keep me busy and are my motivation and inspiration in photography.
I started by photographing out of a tiny spare room in our home. Looking back, I have no idea how I fit everything I needed to in there, but I made it work. In August of 2022, the same day my oldest started kindergarten, I moved into a small 300 sq ft office in Spring Branch and converted into a studio. We have been blessed at this location and are now moving into a larger free standing retail space, the perfect blue little cottage full of natural light and remodeled to fit my vision and dream.
Frog Prince Photography is a private studio in Spring Branch/Bulverde, Texas located 20 minutes outside of San Antonio, Tx. I travel to the San Antonio, Boerne and New Braunfels areas for sessions. I specialize in Fine Art Maternity, Newborn, Family, Couples, Senior and Children’s photography and have mentored under two world-renowned photographers.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles have been the starting investment. Equipment and education come at a cost. Also, marketing and getting the word out there that I exist, especially in a saturated market. Through all of the obstacles and challenges, it has been worth every moment to be able to run my own business and pursue my dreams.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a photographer specializing in newborn, maternity, children’s, cake smash, senior and family photography. I am known for my true to color portraits and my ability to work with a variety of children to capture smiles. I am most proud of the work I have put in and the growth that has occured, allowing me to move into a studio I once thought was only a dream. I have a private studio and my clients have access to designer maternity gowns, designer girls’ dresses, a wide selection of props and outfits. I enjoy capturing both studio and outdoor portraits and love working with families. I understand through the loss of my babies, how important it is to capture these moments gone all to quickly.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the rich culture that San Antonio and surrounding areas provide. I love nature and beautiful locations. I love the people and the diversity.
